PRIDE HAUS

PHOTOS: Backstage At New York Pride’s Dance On The Pier

After more than 20 years on Pier 54, Dance on the Pier, the capstone event at New York Pride moved things uptown and indoors to Pier 57.  Legions of boys grooved to DJ Eddie Baez‘s set, which set the bar high for the evening. By the time the Perry Twins took over the booth, there was hardly any space on the dance floor. So we just climbed up on the stage and hung out with the dancers backstage.

Later, Pride grand marshall Cyndi Lauper stepped out into the light for a “True Colors” singalong, and a performance of her newest track, “Sex is in the Heels,” off the upcoming Kinky Boots musical. The crowd went wild for Lauper, naturally—even if some dudes were a little handsy with her hunky backup dancers. By the time DJ Boris started spinning everyone was hot and sweaty—and not just from the lack of AC. Thanks to a chance in hours, the party kept rolling till 2am, when we lumbered home exhausted and exhiilrated.
