PHOTOS: Freak Flags, Bare Buns Fly At The Fremont Solstice Parade

As they have for the past 21 years, the Solstice Cyclists kicked off the Fremont Solstice Parade in Seattle on Saturday, June 16, when overcast skies and temperatures in the 60s didn’t stop bold participants from stripping naked and painting their bodies for a brisk spin down Market Street. What a cool way to celebrate the arrival of summer!

You could at least provide a link to the set of pictures that hasn’t been “sanitized”. No, the link doesn’t do it….

  • Bob

Is the censorship really necessary? Seems like even some mainstream mags would print these pictures without it. But maybe I wrong.

  • Ruhlmann

Seriously you’re going to hide the jiggly bits? Sheesh.

  • Bob

Guess I am an old prude but I would not take my kids (especially little girls) to watch a bunch of guys with their junk hanging out. Bad taste in my opinion! It’s okay at an all gay or even all adult event but certain standards should apply where children are concerned.

  • jerald

@Bob: There are nude women there too….and I disagree. Everyone has a body, even children.

  • keye

    teeny weenies

  • Making up stuff is fun!

“Everyone has a body, even children.”

Sounds like something a pedophile would say to justify showing his junk to kids.

  • Bob

Mostly nude men that I can see, but maybe that’s due to being on this site. I still say that little children, particularly little girls don’t need to witness naked grown men with their dicks swinging in the breeze. Yes eveyone has body, including children, but there is a big difference between an adult’s body and a child’s body. I an not against nudity, I go to nude beaches, but I do not like seeing children on these beaches and stay clear of them. Many people in these nude beaches agree. I blame the parents who bring them to this event. @jerald:

  • Wow

I need to figure out how to open an intergalactic wormhole to an invasive alien race so these guys will come and give me a collective spanking. Captain america, I have been real naughty!

  • TanyaHyde

@Bob: Perhaps the parents who bring their children to these sort of events are teaching them that there should be no shame or discomfort attached to the human body. If parents are open and communicative about nudity, it helps to remove the mystery and may avoid body-issue stigmas as kids grow older.

  • Making up stuff is fun!

    @TanyaHyde: Another pedo.

  • Wow

@Bob: You are asserting your beliefs onto others. The kids in the parade don’t look traumatized. As long as these folks don’t perform sexual acts on the streets, a bit of planned nudity won’t shatter the pillars of our society.

Here is a flickriver link to the parade. (NSFW, of course)

  • Making up stuff is fun!

@Wow: What a depressing spectacle. Is this what America’s come to?

  • Ken

    Nudity is not sex.

It is being held in America after all in Seattle and the gov there doesn’t think its illegal or immoral or indecent.

But I am sure some religious Reich person was their screaming their condemnation.

  • Bomo Queebo

WTF? what is with the silly censorship here? are we still so prudish? on a GAY website? why even bother to print photos or even report on this event? and NO, nudity does no harm to children – I wish that I had seen such a parade as a kid, I would have grown up without so many gotdamn hang-ups that I had to bust out of in the 60’s & 70’s

  • Tony

Wow! Where do I see the pictures without the little black boxes?!?!?! Haha!

  • Wow

@Tony: There is a little-known tool called Google.

  • Scott

To those not familiar with our city, Fremont is an enclave of Seattle. It is basically the area of Seattle where San Francisco’s Haight/Ashbury decided to retire. This is an annual event that is revered and well publicized throughout Seattle.. It is predominantly heterosexual people, pretty evenly split between men and women. Also to get to this area you need to make a special trip. There is no accidental viewing by anyone “just passing by”. The few kids I have seen at this event in years past seemed completely happy, comfortable and content. The kids there are not children of high strung conservatives, but kids whose parents have raised them to be comfortable with the human body.

  • Christopher

    #9 is drop-dead GORGEOUS!!

  • Steve O

Here is a nsfw link to the video of the cyclists…Captain America appears at the end =)

  • uwyoalum

My monitor must be broken. There are little black boxes all over it. I hope it is still under warranty.

  • Me

  • gomer

at least provide a link back to the original site with the unedited pics. Saw Captain America on the youtube video. That black box is quite impressive.

  • dave

The painted cyclists are not a gay group. It’s only posted here because a couple of them are good looking men. And there is nothing filthy about the human body.

  • Schlukitz

    @Making up stuff is fun!:

Spoken like a morally correct Christian.

With that Godwinian comment, you have shut-down a conversation about nudity.

    Forget about even getting nude

  • Schlukitz

Tanya, note how the “moral majority” quickly resorts to name-calling, character assassination and demoralizing people who are comfortable with their bodies and those of others.

This is how they attempt to control and dominate the thinking of others by instilling shame, guilt and bad feelings about themselves and their bodies.

They claim to believe in an omnipotent, inerrant God who makes no mistakes.

Yet they would debase the human body which he created and which is supposedly fashioned after his own image.

And comment number 24, is the living embodiment of a person who has been so successfully brainwashed about the “filthiness” of the human body, that he must be living in a self-imposed hell.

  • Making up stuff is fun!

@Schlukitz: Before you hurl insults at me, have you ever stopped to think that maybe I’m a victim of a child sexual abuse? That maybe my pedophile talked me into it by first telling me that it’s OK, because “we should all be comfortable with our bodies”?

  • Steven

Picture 12 is not from the Solstice parade, as it breaks two of the three rules of the parade: No printed signs or logos, and no motorized vehicles. It’s probably from Seattle’s drab and boring pride parade.

  • Schlukitz

    @Making up stuff is fun!:

You are the one laying your disdain on others, hurling insults and calling people pedos….and you are the one whining that insults are being hurled at you? What’s wrong with that picture?

I am truly sorry that you were the victim of sexual abuse as a child. It was heinous of the person who committed this crime against you.

That said, did you ever stop to consider that the very reason he committed this crime, may well have been due to the brainwashing and conditioning that made him feel ashamed of his body and his sexual urges? So much so, in fact, that he became totally incapable of expressing his sexual desires in a mature, socially acceptable way and had to resort to the only sexual situation in which he would have total control which was by forcing himself onto a totally helpless child?

What this man did to you was certainly the inappropriate actions of a pedophile and there is absolutely no excuse for what he did. He obviously needs counseling to help him deal with his sexual needs and desires that have run amok and I dare say that you also could have benefitted greatly from some counseling as well to help you work your way through your feeling of having been sexually violated.

Had you cared enough for yourself to get some help, you would not be turning your understandable hurt and anger outward toward the rest of us and trying to make us feel guilty for what happened to you. We are not the ones who committed this crime against you and you need to understand that.

If you care enough about yourself, I would strongly suggest that you do avail yourself of some help in dealing with the conflicted feelings which you are obviously suffering from. There is absolutely no reason, whatsoever, why you should be carrying this burden on your shoulders alone.

I wish only the best for you.

  • Bob (the 1st)

With: “Is the censorship really necessary?” I was referring to the report of the event in this gay, adult-oriented e-zine, not the event itself. Whether that is acceptable or not is another matter entirely.

Since it did take place,I think we can risk a bit of non-erect dick on a site like this. Women and children can seek out or stumble upon every sex act known to man and beast on the rest of the Internet; nothing in this parade is going to scar anyone for life.

  • Making up stuff is fun!

@Schlukitz: Yeah. Just what I expected. You blamed the victim and found excuses for the criminal.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

  • DouggSeven

Beautiful people – each and every one of them.

And can we calm down the pedo meter here? There’s nothing sexual going on here and this is an annual tradition. I’m sure every parent knows what their child will see and are fine with it. It’s not a big deal.

  • Making up stuff is fun!

@Schlukitz: And just so we’re clear, pedophiles aren’t victims. They’re not the ones to be pitied. They are selfish, reckless people. They destroy lives. And they do so knowingly.

Hopefully one day you’ll be able to understand that.

  • Andrew

@Making up stuff is fun!: I hope we can all agree that pedophiles commit appalling crimes. While “Everyone has a body, even children” is definitely not the most articulate defense of public nudity, the implication that non-sexualized nudity in a setting like this parade is somehow equivalent to sexual abuse does nothing more than distract from the truly heinous crimes perpetrated by sex traffickers, child pornographers, and other pedophiles.

  • Bomama

June 28th and temperatures in the 60’s in Seattle. Thank goodness
I don’t live there. But sure wish I was visiting.

  • alanocu

Nice, I want to bang Captain America.

  • This is an outrage!

What kind of an example are these people setting for our children? Very few of those bicyclists were wearing helmets. If any one of them was in an accident this could result in serious, life long injuries even death. No matter how long your trip or the speed at which one is traveling, a helmet is a MUST when on a bicycle. We need to consistently model this behavior for children.

And that body paint better be non-toxic.

  • gray

anyone know of a link to see the captain america full frontal?

  • jude

Ummm…where can I find these uncensored photos of Captain America?!

  • joh

    @Making up stuff is fun!:
No, better this then prudish be ashamed of your body and as others have said, nudity is not sex.
Wanting to see naked children might be pediophilia, this is not.

  • Schlukitz

Claims that public nudity will lead to pedophilia are as absurd and un-based as the religious right claiming that same-sex marriage will lead to incest and man-on-dog sex/marriage.

There is no scientific evidence to support either claim.

  • J Stratford

You gays make me laugh. These people are NOT gay they are hippies who have no body issues.

Its my personal experience that most gays have tons of body issues, so understandably some of you will be personally not in favor of this

but equating these hippies to pedophiles? Wow… that reminds me of the religious nutjobs who equate homosexuality to pedophilia. Fucking self-hating homo!
