“I believe that every age and body type deserves to be photographed,” Olivier Autissier tells Queerty. “I do not just want to photograph ‘beautiful’ people. I want to photograph all types of men. Because aren’t all men beautiful?”

Autissier lives and works in Paris. He’s been photographing male nudes for about six years now. Most of his models are men in their 40s, 50s, and older.

“I’m so tired of photographs of younger men–hairless, thin, between 20 and 25 years old,” he explains. “What about men who are 50 to 70 years? To me, there is no specific age when a person stops being erotic or glamorous or worthy of being photographed.”

It is pretty clear that these are not really intended to be “erotic nudes”, but simply nude portraits of older men. As such they are all interesting, and partake of a tradition that extends to painting and sculpture (as shown by the work of Lucian Freud, Alice Neel and others where nudity contributes to impact of work that is not at all erotic).

Sex IS an a very important part of our life. It’s one of the few things that gives us immense pleasure alone or with someone else…….And it’s free. A happy person will sleep better, get sick less and have higher mental acuity. There are Therapists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists that will help you with any hangups you may have. I love the messages this provides. One of them is that men are beautiful at all stages of life. A natural fact is that we will all become older like the men in these photos and we will still be sexual beings. It may seem weird because many of us don’t talk about older men as sexual beings. I think that we really are over saturated with youth oriented content as the standard of beauty, which ostracizes everyone that is not super young. Specifically for us gay men, this shows us that our lives are not over once we hit 30 years old. We actually get better like a good bottle of wine. 🙂
