PHOTOS: Iceland Warms Up, Speaks Out, At Reykjavik Pride

We might be deep into the dog days of August, but that hasn’t stopped queers around the world from keeping the Pride banner going strong: During Reykjavik Pride, August 7-12, more than 50,000 Icelanders took to the streets to celebrate, with a major street parade on Saturday, August 11. But it wasn’t all fun and games: Many, like Reykjavik Mayor Jon Gnarr (who made headlines decked out in a bright pink dress and matching balaclava, below) were protesting the arrest and jailing of  punk band Pussy Riot in Russia.

Went to Pride there in 2003 while stationed at NAS KEF. There were more str8 ppl there with their families then gay, but was a great time. Some of the most friendly ppl you will ever meet.
