On Saturday, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, where Glee star Jane Lynch gushed over honorees Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka—calling them “gorgeous, easy on the eyes, handsome…and gorgeous,” and admitted that “it doesn’t hurt that their babies are cuter than Brangelina’s.”
Things got little more serious though, when she thanked the guys, who took home the Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award, for showing the world what our gay families really look like.
Neil accepted the award tongue firmly in cheek, while David acted as the serious straight man (kind of). “We are not some sort of freakshow or a government experiment gone awry,” Burtka said. “What really matters is the greater community that surrounds our children,” Neil added. “The supporting cast of people…extended family, teachers, neighbors, image consultants, bodyguards, Barry’s Bootcamp for Toddlers instructors.”
Other honorees included Chaz Bono, who was presented with the Board of Directors Award. The gala was hosted by Leslie Jordan. David Arquette, Bono’s Dancing with the Stars partner Karina Smirnoff, Dita Von Teese, drag queen Coco Peru, Meredith Baxter, and Sara Gilbert were also in attendance.

Maybe the ‘bad old days’ were better; or at least more fun. Back in the 70’s and 80’s being gay meant not having the responsibility, or even the option of children unless they were from a previous ‘straight’ marriage. I am not putting down gay and lesbians who want children, and I wish them well, but I still like the freedom that allows my partner and I to travel when we want, and do the things we want. Well, different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Gay men stopped being innovative and challenging when they became politically correct. They joined women and blacks in the coalition of the disparate – ie a coalition of groups with different interests but bonded together in a phony notion of moral equivalence where it is assumed that each is suffering similarly at the hands of oppressors.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is that both women and blacks oppress the concept of male-male sexuality. Women want to see us men marginalized through double standards such as the bisexual double standard. Blacks want to see us as second-class citizens.
As I’ve said before, this willingness to partake in a coalition is going to do immense damage to us as gay and bisexual men.
