PHOTOS: Thursday night, the cream of the Broadway crop kicked it up at the opening of the new musical Kinky Boots at the Al Hirschfeld Theater.
With a book by Harvey Fierstein, music by Cyndi Lauper and direction/choreography by Jerry Mitchell, it was no surprise that the cast (above) was all smiles.
The show is based on the 2005 British film of the same name and stars Billy Porter as a drag queen with a penchant for pumps who helps a store owner — Stark Sands — save his family’s shoe store.
Meanwhile, the red carpet experienced a hailstorm of Tonys as legends Liza Minnelli, Chita Rivera, Audra McDonald and Glenn Close made their way into the Al Hirschfeld Theater.

Stark Sands has grown up since his twink days in Die Mommie Die.

Yeah, that’s NOT Stark with Chita.

Who invited that “Countess” with no class? How did she even get in?

Cyndi does not age. She always looks great. In these pics Cyndi looks like Alannah Currie of Thompson Twins from 1985 !

@DickGreenleaf: Yes, I think it’s Jack Noseworthy.

At first glance I thought the background in the first photo was the Chic-fil-A logo. I was like WTF?

I’m here in Palm Springs and don’t think I’ll be seeing KB anytime soon but it looks and sounds wonderful.

“Kinky Boots” proves that guys and girls just wanna have fun. Act one closing number (“Everybody Say Yeah”) has the hottest and most creative choreography of any show on Broadway in at least 10 years. First act one standing ovation I ever recall.
