Countless diet and exercise programs promise weight loss results, but Dusty Fuller was looking for a different sort of #bodygoal.
The out business analyst has become something of a viral sensation after sharing before and after photos of his transformation from a jock-ish build to full-on bear.
Fuller, who goes by Cubby online, gained over 100 pounds deliberately over the course of five years.
He shared the results on Twitter:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.

— Cubby ? (@Cubby_84) December 5, 2018
The post has been liked over 6k times, with nearly 1k comments — it’s safe to say it struck a nerve.
In an interview with GayStarNews he added:
“My weight gain was on purpose. I used to strive to be a huge muscled dude with abs. I started lifting weights in 2012 and worked hard at lifting and counting calories and macros for a few years. However, I just wasn’t increasing my size like I wanted to. I had always been envious of beefier muscled bears, so in 2015 I decided to go that route to increase my size…I wanted to become a Bear.”
Fuller (who is indeed looking fuller these days) shared that he’s been lifting weights four days a week in conjunction with upping his calorie intake to between 4,000-5,000. He said he remains checked-in with his health to ensure his added mass doesn’t risk his health.
“My health takes priority over my weight and size,” he said.
And judging by his Instagram, he’s not the only one who likes the new him:
Here’s some more:

Of course adding a hundred extra pounds is going to put a risk on your health. Whatever floats your boat though girl.
Catholicslutbox
REALLY gross though.
Robothedestroyer
Not if it’s mostly muscle. He definitely has extra fat but like it or not that is the direction bodies go as they age at least he is active, lifts lots of weights, and is probably as strong as a real bear.

GREAT

No shit! All I see is reaching the goal for heart disease, arthritis and diabetes.
Being there, this is not a picnic. I went from 220 pounds to nearly 300 in the past 12 years – it’s not pretty, it’s not sexy, it’s not encouraging. I thought “Sure! I will just keep working out! Stay in shape!” – right. The fat weighs you down, and then you start to slow down, and then you start making excuses while power-loading on junkfood and crap. And when you start to turn into an old fart and your metabolism starts to slow, and you realize that perhaps you need to listen to your cardiologist before you hit Wendy’s drive thru – it hits your that YOU’RE STUCK WITH IT!
And finally… MY DICK HAS DISAPPEARED into the rolls of FAT! Ooo… baby. How sexy – NOT.
Stupid waste of health.
MarathonBoy
Why are you misgendering him?
inbama
Come on, MarathonGirl. Gay men have been misgendering each other since the beginning of time.
It’s only a slur if by all outward appearances, you seem to be correct.
Andy.R
What a shame. 🙁 Wasn’t getting enough attention as a “jock”, then why not change course…
James Hart
People can do as they like, however, I think he has put his health into jeopardy and I think that he looked better and younger when he was slim.
Johnny46
OMG. he’s gorgeous!
>>> www.g-letshave.fun <<<
Absolutely agree with you. And i would like to recommend all of you one unique place to find what you exactly need. It is for gay singles only. Just look at my name /\/\/\. There are a lot of real gay “daddies” and frivolous gay singles looking for love and pleasure
Despair272
He is, indeed. So happy for him, this type of transformations should be made public more. People are afraid to be judged by the majority of LGBT.

I never considered myself a chubby chaser — though I do find many chubby guys very cute. The appeal of the face is paramount though I do like gym bodies too. It might be the beard but I would notice the “after” guy before I would even look at the “before” guy.
flinnte
Hey anyone who considers themselves a chubby chase, say hi. Lol chubby here…..Tommy
HereIAm
He is not the only aging gay who decides to let himself go physically but then uses a lame and disgusting excuse to justify his stupid behaviors. I can’t imagine anyone would find the overweight version more attractive than his slimmer and smooth physique. This whole “bear” culture is just ridiculous.
Hussain-TheCanadian
Jesus queen, when are we going to see a positive post from you?
P.S.
I prefer the skinny him, not into bears personally, but thats just me; im happy for him that hes happy.
HereIAm
Hussain, let me settle a score with you once and for all. You are happy that he is happy with the stupid way he is now. I am under no obligation to be positive and pleasant here. Is that clear to you?
PinkoOfTheGange
Do you know the definition of smooth when used to describe men?
BTW bitter queens that have nothing kind to say about anything, save their own poo, are just ridiculous. Mostly they get that way because they just give up after they figure out nobody actually likes them.
erik24
There’s probably a lot of things going on in the world that you can’t imagine.
miserylovedme24
I think he looks way better now. You need to realize that not everyone is into the same things. I’ll take a guy with meat on his bones over a skinny twink any day.
Hussain-TheCanadian
@ HereIAm,
I didn’t realize you and I have a score to settle; believe it or not, you and I agree on a lot of things, however on what we disagree on, I prefer to understand why people are doing what they are doing rather than jumping into condemnation mode.
I’m just sad that your posts are extremely negative, with not a single happy, positive, or joyful post at all. I’m just puzzled that I dont see you posting on happy or inspiring articles either.
I’m happy for his happiness, be him built, skinny, or whatever else. What I consider beautiful and attractive is not shared by every single gay man, thats a given. You may consider what he did to himself to be a disservice to his well being and physical attractiveness, but to brand being a Bear as “ridiculous” is a bit much.
I know what you need, you need a nice joint, something to take the edge off.
HereIAm
Warm and fuzzy is not my thing. I am on the straight and narrow and believe that we are here to prevail over the challenges presented to us when we were born and live a disciplined and hardworking life. Any obstacles to these goals, like porn, overindulgence, gluttony, promiscuity, anonymous hookups, fetish kinky lifestyle, are to be overcome. if not totally eliminated.
NataMaxxx
You sound delightful…
Itsonlythetruth
The LGBT community gets enough hate from the outside, we should not be turning on each other. You know nothing about this man yet you felt it was your place to post a mean and nasty comment. I pity you.
jsmu
@HereIAm You are under no obligation to be intelligent, civilized, or logical here–and it’s a damn good thing for you, bitter old beeyotch queen. Your fascist attempts at absolutist pronunciamenti are riotously funny–of course, by accident. However does it feel to be hated by every poster on the site, and to know you not only are friendless online but friendless in reality?
Schooled, spanked, and DISMISSED, beeyotch. Go back to masturbating to AYN EFFING RAND novels.
gayjim1969
@HereIAm
“Warm and fuzzy is not my thing.”
If you’re talking about your personality, that’s would be apparent to Helen Keller–without touching you. If you’re talking about physically, good for you; it doesn’t matter what you think about someone else’s choices for their body.
“I am on the straight and narrow and believe that we are here to prevail over the challenges presented to us when we were born and live a disciplined and hardworking life. Any obstacles to these goals, like porn, overindulgence, gluttony, promiscuity, anonymous hookups, fetish kinky lifestyle, are to be overcome. if not totally eliminated.”
I can agree with your first sentence, and I think most people would, to a degree. The problem is that you seem to deal with absolutes, and your ideas sound like Asceticism. That’s great, but don’t take those views and go on a site that you know to be diametrically opposed to those to make hateful, spiteful, derogatory comments when you’re probably really here to check out links to the things you’re railing against.
jcrewj1311
You are seriously the problem with gay culture. Seriously, please turn in your card and gtfo because no one wants you here.

Listen Here,
We’re al aging. Shock? I know. You won’t always be this young and… Well, you’ll get older.
Let himself go? He gorgeous a man that didn’t like how he looked and changed it, even if it didn’t meet the approval of anyone here.
Stupid is to read the article and then put someone down for taking action.
By this statement alone, “… like porn, overindulgence, gluttony, promiscuity, anonymous hookups, fetish kinky lifestyle, are to be overcome. if not totally eliminated.” I can’t imagine you have any imaginations.
Another shock… Not everyone likes ‘smooth & shiny’.
Whatever shame you are wanting to put on others is ridiculous!

Despair272
“disciplined and hardworking life. Any obstacles to these goals, like porn, overindulgence, gluttony, promiscuity, anonymous hookups, fetish kinky lifestyle” who hurt you, seriously? So people doing hookups, watching porn etc. can’t have a disciplined life? That’s a prime example of internalized homophobia and sign of serious personality disorders.
He looks more gorgeous ever than before, I’m on the same boat, going from hairless twink to bulky hairy cub and then to a bear, hopefully. Just because people like different things don’t mean they should be “eliminated” and whatever you implied. Please be kind to another.
ShiningSex
what’s ridiculous are stupid queens who can’t let people be who they want to be and not have to fit a type. you must have a boring sex life or too ignorant and arrogant to be loved.

Topman60640
It’s a fine line between “bear” and fat. To me, “bears” are furry guys of somewhat proportional height and weight.
When your gut hangs over your belt, you’re just fat, no matter how furry you may be.
In his favor, looks like he’s found someone who accepts and values him, so he’s way ahead of most of the gay guys I know.
miserylovedme24
That’s a ridiculous definition. You’re delusional if you think ‘bear’ refers to a guy with proportional height and weight. That’s an otter. A bear is one that is on the heavier side while an otter is basically a thin hairy guy.
Dmand
What a ridiculous comment. A bear is not just furry. A bear has a gut. Just because furry guys have called themselves bears doesn’t make it true
Topman60640
Let’s break this down in porn terms, shall we?
Jesse Jackman, muscle bear
Colby Jansen, bear
Not all bears have a gut, let’s stop lauding an unhealthy height/weight body in fetishistic or defensive terms.
You want to put on weight, fine. Want to stop chasing the gay “ideal,” great. You be you.
But this guy, with this frame, carries an amount of fat (not weight) that portends future health concerns, based on BMI.
PinkoOfTheGange
The head should be “Otter Jumps Species to Bear”.
YourDad
Just get married. The transformation happens naturally.

Or from healthy to morbidly obese. Anyone who risks their health for some kind of sexual fetish is just an idiot.
ShiningSex
being thin doesn’t equal healthy ignorant fool. educate yourself.
Vince
I get it. However most of the population still sees you as just an obese fatty
inbama
That’s redundant.
Bob3007
I virtually self-destructed my whole life trying to be the “ before” guy that he was without having to do anything to be that way so this absolutely drives me batshit crazy that you’d want to get fat. He better enjoy it now while he’s young because this too shall pass.. Then when he gets older and develops high blood pressure or early diabetes or both, or starts getting bad feet and knees, hips or joints and the doctor says you need to lose 100 lbs by then his metabolism will have slowed to the point trying to lose it will be impossible he may regret it. I have to work out, eat absolutely correctly and do all kinds of activities to stay 240 lbs…( I’m not fat at this weight and I’m in great health) but the amount of effort is triple what it would take the before guy to maintain it. I don’t understand the fascination with people who are “ gainers” or “ growers” ..like i said someday he’ll regret this decision
Tarutaru
A bear is a furry creature with thick arms legs and neck. And a big belly. A California black bear is between 5-6 feet tall and 300-400lbs. You are delusional, and secretly jealous, to think that In gay culture a bear is a hairy muscle dude. Big thick fat guys are bears. And you know what… there’s a little more love and acceptance in the bear community which is why you are secretly so jealous of it and trying to steal the name bear for yourself. Instead of making your own niche more accepting and loving. Gaining weight is not about attention from others, it is about how he feels about himself.
PinkoOfTheGange
Unless you are a natural mesomorph. There isn’t acceptance there but rather open hostility. At least that was my personal experience in the aughts. That and club kids the SF bears didn’t like those guys.
Now things may have changed.
Bob LaBlah
Personally I prefer him with his weight than the pic where he looks like a gym queen who must workout for three hours to work off a $1 cone of ice cream from McD’s. Keep the weight dear. That twiggy/twink shit is not for everyone.
frankcar1965
Except it is self-destructive just like anorexia, he intentionally got fat. He should not be praised.
mc4bbs
He’s sexy before AND after! WOOF!
He’s not the only person who’s “gained” on purpose, and doing it gradually over five years in a relativity healthy manner is far better than dangerous and deadly silicone injections.
I commend ANYONE that takes healthy actions to make their body the way THEY want it to be.
Great job!!!
frankcar1965
Gaining 100lbs is not healthy in nay way, stop validating him. Would you say the same thing if he smoked?
Officiant
I have it all mixed up!
tdh1980
I’m all for people living their best lives as long as they don’t harm themselves and others, but I think we as gay men need to start doing some serious introspection regarding our issues with body image because we have a lot of unhealthy attitudes that lead to very questionable behaviors.
Samuelle
Very glad to see at least one comment that isn’t evaluating how attractive he is before or after. There’s a much bigger discussion to be had here.
gymmuscleboy
A Twink can be too skinny, and a Bear can be too fat. I love attractive bears, and my limit is when the fat is ballooning out and overflowing like this guy. He was clearly healthier before.
Bytemenow
Good for him. He looked good before. He looks good now. We as a community have really messed up body images of ourselves, then we impose ideas of messed up body images on others. I’ve seen and heard guys that would call his before photo “average”, because he’s not cut up or defined enough for them. Of course, this is coming from guys with physiques that are nowhere near what his before photo looks like. I know that we all have body types that attract us, but for goodness sake, can’t we be happy for someone finding love regardless of who they are or what they look like?
Congratulations Dusty Fuller! I wish you many years of happiness with your husband.

All that matters is that he’s happy. Though I think he is way sexier in his skinny version 1.0.
o.codone
In case you can’t tell by my screen name, I do drugs, every day. Have for years. All that matters is that I’m happy. Um, yeah.
gayjim1969
The body shaming on this site is typical of the kind of hate that leads gay men to body dysmorphia and eating disorders. Few people can look like Dusty’s before picture; they don’t have the genetics, money, time or inclination to put hours in the gym, all to look like a Ken Doll.
Science has shown that having a flat stomach isn’t a sign of health, and a belly isn’t the kiss of death. People oversimplify everything–including doctors. Your genetics have much more influence than they will tell you.
My mother never drank, smoked, and tried to eat well, but she had acute asthma most of her life (as did most of her father’s family–as well as COPD–and all of her 5 children), had many mini-strokes over several decades (and one large one toward the end of her life), and died of Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
My father died of heart disease, had multiple heart attacks and strokes, and he had dementia; he wasn’t overweight and didn’t have high blood pressure. His family ALL had heart disease and diabetes (he did escape that, thanks to my mom’s influence). His mother had dementia.
An Aunt died of pancreatic cancer; never smoked, never drank, ate healthy religiously, exercised regularly, and taught aerobics at the YMCA. Dead, age 50.
Does lifestyle play a part? Certainly. Does excess weight put a strain on the circulatory and pulmonary systems? Yes. Does that shorten someone’s life? Likely, but by how much? Or will they die of something else first? Cancer caused by genetic factors or a heart abnormality never discovered? A car accident, perhaps?
My point is; genetics play a large part in our health and how and when we’re going to die. We can hope that by taking care of ourselves, we will add a few years, but that isn’t assured. And shaming other people when we should be taking a good look at ourselves, shows just how shallow and piddling some of us are.
caboxerguy
Someone’s attractiveness has a lot more to do with than just the way they look ( aka personality, etc ). Judging by several of these comments there seems to be a huge number of unattractive people. You folks need to make sure your house is clean before you worry about anyone else’s. Even then it would still be none of your business.
gayjim1969
Two thumbs WAY UP!
frankcar1965
It is self-destructive, AND he put it out there looking for admiration, why not just STFU and say nothing? ATTENTION WHORE!!!
SportGuy
Wow, he use to be attractive.
Robothedestroyer
You know what… I’m gonna stay quiet. As a big boy myself a lot of your opinions on a good looking guy who has, despite not having pop culture version of it, a nice muscular body is disgusting. I can’t comment without getting deep in my feelings so I am just gonna leave it there. However keep in mind all that hate and judgemental BS is part of the problem, making you part of the problem. Just remember those “opinions” and “prefrences” are being barked at a living, breathing person.
I will however say I like both 1 and 2.0… But I would rather wake up to the cuddly 2.0 every day than his former look. However I wouldn’t kick either of them out of bed.
frankcar1965

Eventually his body will show the effects of carrying an extra 100 pounds around, the feet, the knees and so on. Young qweenz do get old some day. But yeah, the aerobix bunnies have similar problems when they hit middle age and beyond, that they’ve messed up their hips and suffer a lot of pain from all of that impact exercise.
thewalrussaid
He looks good in the before picture. He also looks good in the picture with him laying on his back in bed, which is from a few years ago. He should have stopped gaining fat at that point.
frankcar1965
Say hello to diabetes and a black gangrenous leg! And then the heart attacks and high blood pressure, blown out knees and back.
Does anyone notice if someone says they smoke people get a hair up their butt, but somebody intentionally gains massive weight they praise them? Something is very wrong with this.

A Queerity Re-title: From FIT-To-FAT!….Bwahahahahahahahaaaa!!!!!
flinnte
Dear fellow gays,
I don’t remember people asking your opinion of them, their weight, their looks, he just posted his pic to show that there are as many ideas of beauty as there are stars in the heavens. Yes, weight has impacts on health. So does steroid use to force your body to be something it is not normally. I’m going to say something people might find odd, but I don’t want to live to 100. The last 10 years of most people’s lives are awful. Drs., hospitals, pills, shots, procedures. Ricky Gervais said recently I’m not interested in 5 more years at the end of life, I want a better life now. I’ve seen friends, family go through horrible deaths. Chemo therapy is something at a late age I would think about not doing. Relatives did, it ended up shortening their useable lives, gave them less good time, more sick time. Ask your doctor’s the success rate the the treatment, you’d be surprised how poor some procedures are. Anyway, be kind, let people do what makes them happy. Someone on Growl r yesterday after chatting wrote back, not interested, kind of snotty, so i said please just say not a good match, it’s less hurtful. Not surprising, he didn’t take it well. Be civil, be well and Happy Holidays!
frankcar1965

Creamsicle
He made a conscious, informed choice to gain body fat. It’s not what I would do, but it’s also not my problem, not my body, and not my choice!
He and his husband look happy together as they are, and if he changes his mind about what will make him happy and healthy in the long term, then he definitely knows exactly what he needs to do to lose the weight, since he was doing it previous to that. He won’t fall for the excuses and delusion of the Fat Acceptance and HAES pushers on the Internet.
HereIAm
What a delusional thought you have! Gaining weight is easy but losing weight at his age, as many gays can attest to, is way difficult, if not impossible. My point is, since he made his choice so public, he should be man enough to take all criticisms, including some harsh ones.
laidbackdude69
There’s a difference between being critical of someone and spouting hate. You, Sir, need to put the sledgehammer down.
iamru2
Wait what? He wanted to be muscular but gave up and decided to go for fat?
laidbackdude69
You all crack me up. Weight isn’t a death sentence for everyone. If it were, half of America would be dead by now. I come from a family of thin people where most of the men have died from some form of heart disease. Genetics does play a role. And none of you know him. You don’t know what he and his doctor have discussed and I’m sure planned for should he develop high blood pressure, high colesterol, etc. And for those of you that say once you gain that weight it’s all downhill from there: Pot Kettle. Be as lazy as you want, but don’t assume everyone else is the same way. He devoted years to look like that. You don’t think he’d devote the time to reduce his weight if he wanted? I have better things to do with my time than pass judgement on people I don’t know.

I prefer the before picture, but that’s only my insignificant opinion.

Mmm, mmm, good! I like both versions of him, with a slight lean to the ‘after’ photo. Regardless, I certainly wouldn’t kick him out of my bed!

A Buddha belly is not healthy. A hundred plus years ago, this body type would have been eligible for a circus side-show. That’s not vituperative, it’s a fact. Average American body weight has skyrocketed since World War 2. Celebrating fat is not a healthy choice.

I’m 50. When I was 25, in the Castro, I knew of a [already stunning] guy so vain, he got butt implants. It went wrong and his legs got amputated. I’m amazed that we’ve come so far that bigger bodies are glorified and celebrated. That IS cool and a HUGE shift towards “allowing” non-perfect bodies to be viewed as “hot”. The sad thing is the health consequences of weight gain (and I can attest, as I involuntarily have gained 30lbs in the past few years) are many as already noted above are many. Be careful, bear. BE CAREFUL.
For perspective: 75% of Americans are too obese to be drafted. That’s a little scary.

I personally know several BEAR-ish men. One is a police officer and is 6’6″ weighs 260-270 lbs- ALL muscle and he runs, swims, works out ,eats very healthy.. Another is bear BEAR..just big- he acknowledges he needs to and IS losing weight… Overall , if a man is just adding weight to add weight , that can be VERY unhealthy. But each person is different… Personally I’ll never get like that, as I am blessed with my fathers VERY high metabolism. And I exercise ( cycle, run, swim, weights, yoga – not muscular-just tall, slim & trim . I LIKE it that way and I’m NOT changing to conform to the Body fascism so rampant in the GLBTQ world.. ); I eat healthy, don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t use streets drugs – wish I didn’t have to use OTC generics.. Overall I’m quite healthy. It’s a VERY personal journey for everyone.
NateOcean
My friend went nuts and did something similar. He was a fine looking Latino man in his early 30s, and fit about 5’9″ and 150lb. We saw each other off and on for a few years before he moved away. Next time he visited he had more tats and piercing than looked good on him. He mentioned he was “trying to bulk up”. A few year later he was in town again and looked horrible. He put on 60~70 lbs. His doctor was concerned about his high cholesterol and was perplexed. My friend failed to mention to his doctor that he was eating 6 eggs a day to “bulk up”.

All the body negativity! You can be big and healthy. Contrary to popular belief, big guys aren’t always laying on their asses slurping down take out burgers and ice cream all day. I don’t eat carbs and work out two or three times a week and am still a big guy. I also have perfect blood work and a good heart and athlete level blood pressure and resting heart rate. The last time I went to the doctor’s office, the doctor said “Wow, you’re healthier than I am” and went on to ask me about my low carb diet and workout routine. I doubt this guy let himself go. He is solid and strong looking. He is also sexy as hell. I see a lot of bitter and hateful comments on here. Know what, I am a husky hairy guy and I can get laid anytime I want. I am constantly inundated with Grinders wanting to hook up with my “fat” ass.

“My weight gain was on purpose. I used to strive to be a huge muscled dude with abs.”
My bf did the exact same thing. he ate a lot of red meat and fish and worked out. Although he wasn’t chubby but you could tell he was a lot bigger. I think that is just gaining weight. But I don’t know anything when it comes to working out and gaining muscle. So ignore my opinion. I do YOGA though. =)

My preference was when he was twinklike. I’m not judging if he is happy that way that is all that matters. So many unhappy people out there we must find what really works for us.
