“I think the real beauty of human anatomy is in our defects and imperfections,” Spanish photographer Luis Movilla tells Queerty.

Movilla, who identifies as gay, lives and works in Tenerife, in Spain’s Canary Islands. Most of his models are guys he meets on Grindr or PlanetRomeo, as well as close friends. He only started taking pictures about two years ago, but he has quickly developed a photographer’s eye.
“I want to capture the beauty in all bodies–a retired male, a college student, a waiter, a chubby guy,” he says. “Ordinary people.”

He adds: “I want [my models] to feel comfortable and accepted. I want them to feel desired.”

That’s funny and so right. I just apply the law of averages. Most are hideous but eventually one or two are just right. Then it looks like I’m a natural beauty. Lol

Not the best photography, but I’m glad someone is trying to do something different. What about the amazing photography of Paul Mpagi Sepuya? He’s really talented and a great photographer of gay/bi/trans men.

I find it interesting that because these men don’t fit the gym sculpted manscaped mould that represents only a small minority of the worlds population they are deemed to have (by the photographers own admission) ‘imperfections’ when really this is what most men out there look like.

What makes great looking at photographs is the extraordinary quality of the subject, not the ordinary. These are not just common, they’re pedestrian.
