PARTY HAUS

PHOTOS: Queerty Celebrates First Anniversary With GayCities In West Hollywood

It was just a year ago that GayCities launched the new Queerty, and to celebrate we hosted a happy-hour shindig Thursday night at Eleven nightclub in West Hollywood. The event, sponsored by Blue Angel Vodka and San Francisco Travel, brought together friends, fans, colleagues and even a few stars—including adult-film star/model Nicco Sky and comic sensation Drew Droege. Guests mixed, mingled and enjoyed specialty cocktails like the GayCities Slicker and the Queery Colada. And our photographer caught the whole thing on film! If you were there, head over to Queerty’s Facebook page and tag yourself—and your friends! And, hey, while you’re there, why not “Like” Queerty?   Click through for more photos from Queerty’s anniversary party in Los Angeles Photos: Matt Baume

    Be careful, events like this are what ruined HRC. They became more interested in these types of things, and would never ever stand up to anybody for fear that they wouldn’t show up to their next party. They stopped doing anything that pushed the adgenda.

  • Evan Mulvihill

    @cam: This wasn’t an over-the-top gala… Just a fun happy hour with LGBT influencers!

  • TomMc

    Great dental plan. Photo captions please?

  • Jason Sweeten

    Wish I could have been there! Wahhh wahhh…

  • TheBippi

    @cam: I concur…twas not over the top at all…everyone was down to earth, making/creating connections and far from up tight! Definitely low key to celebrate Queerty’s Anniversary with style and panache!

  • TheBippi

    @TomMc: If you go to the FB page, there’s some captioning in there! 🙂

  • Mike1987

    I like Queerty and hit this site (hard) daily.

  • Randy

    Congrats on one year! But @ Cam: the “parties” say more about what it takes to get people to be interested and donate. If people donated or became interested and involvedd without events, then certainly non-profits wouldn’t want to spend the money to put so many on. Politics, lobbying, takes money. I don’t think we’d be as far as we are today if if HRC was never around. It’s unfair to compare a publication to the work of a human rights organization.

  • Spike

    @cam: Cocktail parties ruined HRC? Last I checked, HRC is doing just fine and continues represent the GLBT community in Washington, DC as exactly what they were set up to be, a lobbyist group. With that said, how nice that the LA Queerty boys had fun at 11. As for the pics, note to self, when the photog asks for a picture, politely decline.

  • SixPackWallpapers

    who is that at number 15?

    HRC attacked anybody who filed a suit for gay marraige over the last 10 years, and tried to prevent the push for the repeal of DADT. They sent out a memo saying don’t pressure politicians and wait until after Obama was out of office before saying anything about gay issues.

    If they had had their way DADT would not have been repealed and none of the lawsuits that got us marriage rights in multiple states would have gone through.

  • Cam

    @Evan Mulvihill:

    Good to know, love the site and would hate to see it go the way HRC did.

  • Scott Gatz

    @SixPackWallpapers: That’s our very own Scott Furman, National Sales Director. Be sure to say hi and send advertisers his way 😉

  • Cam

    @Scott Gatz:

    You left something out! And….the advertising contact info is??? 🙂

  • KV

    Why does pretty much any gay male event have to include a porn star at some point? But then we get mad when people say we’re an oversexed community. Thnigs that make ya go hmmm…

  • jason

    Some of my own posts here on Queerty have received prominent billing on the Google search engine, with the Queerty logo next to it.

    I wonder whether I’ll be allowed to this party : I act crazy!!!

  • TomMc

    @TheBippi: Thanks.

  • chaboy

    For a site that represents a community that is supposed to be a “rainbow” in it’s composition this is a really white male party. The same Asian guy pictured numerous times doesn’t count for diversity. Invitations could be sent to porn stars and the creator of Grindr, but not to more women, trans, latin, asian and black guests?

  • TheBippi

    @chaboy: The RSVP was pretty open actually. And I’m not white for the record. Also, it’s up to people to be a part of the inclusion as well. You can be an arm chair activist all day long, but in the end you gotta stand up on your own two legs as well to make that difference.

  • Andrew

    What’s the name of handsome guy on the right, with the plaid shirt, in pic 14?

  • Tackle

    Reluctantly I clicked through ALL twenty three. And thank god there was no pics of
    Daniel Villarreal. It looks like, and hopefully he’s forever no longer a part of Queerty.
    He’s not missed at all. Queerty is better off without him and his race bating articles. Particuarly against Blacks. And I noticed that since he’s gone, things have toned down abit, and many of his trolls have left this site also.

    Another thing I have noticed in the nearly three yrs that I have been comming to this site. There has never been a “Lesbian” writer. Or a female writer in fact. Since this is about the “Gay” agenda, I’m sure you mean(GLBT), I, and I would think many would love to here the point a view from a lesbian. This site seems a little male-centric, and it cannot be that hard to find a lesbian writer.

  • CBRad

    @Tackle: Hey ! I liked Daniel Villareal. At least he did apologize (after writing in an article on Northern Ireland that the Catholic Church was the primary influence up there) for his mistake. Which is more than any other Queerty person would ever do.

  • Evan Mulvihill

    @SixPackWallpapers: #15 is Queerty’s national ad sales director, the one and only Scott Furman.
