PHOTOS: Small Town Rallies To Celebrate Gay Wedding, Defines Spirit Of Marriage Equality

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 10.45.07 AMThere’s nothing truly remarkable about DJ Payne and Lance Harrison’s decision to get married. The Petersburg, VA, couple has been together for 16 loving years, so when same-sex marriage became legal in Virginia, the choice was simple.

But what they never could have expected was the outpouring of support they felt from their town of 32,400 people.

The couple hired a brass band processional to march through the downtown area, and hundreds of their friends, family members and neighbors joined the impromptu parade to celebrate.

Police blocked the street as the mob of drag queens, city officials, friends and strangers joined forces for the rainbow-clad union.
