Located in the heart of Boystown, Manhole is one of Chicago‘s most notorious gay leather bars. It’s known for its gritty atmosphere, cheap beer, and weekly party nights like Animal House and Jock Night. It’s a grown man’s playground where the only rule is there are no rules.

Manhole closed back in the mid 2000s. Hydrate renovated it’s spot. Has a new Manhole opened somewhere else in Boystown? It’s been about a year since my last visit to Chicago.

That’s a lot of wishful thinking loosely held together by pics of hot dudes. The Manhole, as a real, functional, full time bar doesn’t even exist at this point and hasn’t for over a decade. This whole article is woven together out of hyperbole, nostalgia, optimism, and marketing hype.
Don’t get me wrong, I want the new Manhole to thrive and be wildly successful. Back in the day the old Manhole was my favorite place to go dance, but this article is hollow and blindly assumes/pretends that nobody is aware of the real situation.
And “gritty” is not a word that applies.
