Rumor alert, to anyone who takes their rangers with a dose of power: the upcoming Power Rangers cinematic reboot will feature a gay blue ranger.
The news comes via Hollywood gossip site We Got This Covered, so take it with a grain of salt. That said, the 2017 Power Rangers movie also hinted that the Yellow Ranger (played by Becky G) also had an attraction to women. This rebooted version will feature a more overt gay character, possibly intended as a nod to David Yost, the Blue Ranger in the original 90s TV series. Yost has since come out as gay and revealed the shocking amount of homophobia he endured on the set.

The new Power Rangers movie, helmed by Johnathan Entswhile of I Am Not OK With This, will reportedly revolve around a time travel premise that will feature the new cast of rangers traveling into the past to interact with the original Rangers line-up. TV series stars Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson will also reprise their roles as the Green and Pink Rangers as well.
How about we take this to the next level?

The Power Rangers reboot has yet to set a release date. The inclusion of a gay lead comes at a sensitive time when Hollywood blockbusters have come under increasing pressure to include more LGBTQ heroes. Several tentpole films have included queer characters to varying receptions.

Despite some flaws I actually really enjoyed the 2017 PR film. More than I thought I would. I think the problem was that I enjoyed the non-Ranger stuff a little too much more than the Ranger stuff. I think that is why it failed to catch on. They wanted the scifi/fantasy stuff to be the typical gritty & realistic kind Hollywood is obsessed with that it felt stale and not of the PR universe. Sucks to see this iteration be a one and done but I expected it.
Hopefully the new film embraces more of what made Power Rangers, Power Rangers.

Nice
Sjw in rangers now ))))))))))

Yeah. I mean it’s not like the original American show had a black, Asian, and 2 female leads. They are sooooo pushing the SJW agenda here.

It’s cute when right wing trolls try to attack “SJW” as cover for the fact that they support bigotry.

I remember many years ago, probably in the 90s, the Power Rangers were on an international tour. After one of their shows in Dublin two of them were in the city’s leading gay bar, The George. I got chatting to one of them and he confirmed to me that he was gay. I wonder was it David Yost.

Stop with the rumors- when you’re sure- then tell us….for years there have been more ‘rumored’ gay characters in film than films!

I didn’t hate the 2017 version but it was meh in many ways. The concept of the new one sounds good in theory except with the actors being older I don’t see how traveling back in time to meet the OG rangers will look visually as they aren’t exactly teenagers with attitude anymore though it doesn’t say it’s the 90s they’ll travel to, so depending on when the “present” is then it could make sense as the new rangers could be in the distant future. Of course then we get into other canon contradictions if reprising roles as rangers means the ability to morph but we shall see. I’m a little concerned that if they try to bring back the 90s nostalgia that they’ll make a gay character overly stereotypical and I hope they don’t as bad representation feels worse than no representation.

Supposedly it is going to take place in the 90s. Or at least a good chunk of it. Considering that Hollywood has been using de-aging technology for years now successfully in films I can’t imagine it would be a problem for this one. Though with only the 2 rangers appearing it makes one wonder where the others are?
As to multiple ranger teams accessing the morphing grid, I think the show has blown that concept to smithereens at least 10 times now. Especially given all the multi generational team crossovers they have done over the decades plus the fact that some teams didn’t access the traditional grid from the 90’s era.
The rumor is that the blue ranger from the future will be gay. So the 90s stereotypes, as ridiculous as that concept is, wouldn’t matter. ICYI, the same source, which apparently has been correct in the past, says the future red ranger will be female. So I’m sure the fanboys will be flipping out about that. Even though I think there has already been at least one or two female red rangers.
