Pride Celebration In Greece Marred By Violence

Yesterday, some 400 people at a Pride parade in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki were attacked by dozens of protestors throwing eggs and plastic bottles, reports the AP.

Thessaloniki is Greece’s second largest city and the capital of the region of Central Macedonia. Police at the parade stepped in to stop the assault, and no injuries or arrests were reported.

The single-named Anthimos, the city’s senior Greek Orthodox cleric, has publicly criticized the parade and once told congregants that “gay people warp human nature with unspeakable, unnatural acts.”

Well it’s great to see people in Greece don’t have bigger problems to deal with than some people celebrating love and community.
