“Charlie Black, a top adviser to Republican John McCain, apologized yesterday for suggesting that another terrorist attack on US soil would help McCain’s prospects. In an interview with Fortune magazine, Black said, ‘Certainly it would be a big advantage to him.'” [Boston Globe]

I honestly do not understand the mindset of a person who could see any advantage for anyone in a terrorist attack. What type of people are these? Scary people for sure.

Sadly, he’s probably right. I’m not saying that a terrorist attack would be a “good” thing for anyone, but it could help those more conservative, warry types when it comes to getting elected.
Bush’s second term? He was gonna get them terrists. People are sometimes comforted by that kind of sentiment when they’re a-feared.

And this man is still a “top adviser”? Tells us a lot, that does.

I’d rather deal with the .000000001% chance of being killed in a terrorist attack than lose the freedoms lost over the last 7 years. This should never have been an option. The terrorists won. Keeping the American way of life, my ass.

Bush was despised the moment he took office in 2000. People pelted his limo with eggs on his way to the inauguration. Bush might not have completed one term, let alone two had it not been for 9/11. Saint 9/11 helped Bush, and the GOP stay in power and propelled Rudy Giulliani to the forefront of politics for quite some time. Terrorism has paid very big dividends for the Republicans and a timely terrorist attack would probably assure a McCain Presidency. Mr. Black was only speaking the truth as the GOP sees it. The problem was the truth was revealed in a recorded interview and made public, outside the GOP inner circle. The fear now is that should such an attack occur before the general election, it might not be so effective and might even backfire.

I have a fear that something is going to happen. Bush is not out of office yet and he seems quite focused on Iran. No telling what might happen and Americans tend to go blind when it comes to war and terrorism. McCain would be seen as a person with military experience and we could be back to square one. The citizens of the U.S. are not the brightest bulbs in the tanning bed. Sorry to say that but the longer I live abroad the more i see (as well as the rest of the free world) that its true.

Too bad Bush got elected instead of McCain (although Gore would have probably won outright in that match up). I think McCain would have had a better approach after 9/11 and wouldn’t have created a war that didn’t need to be created. But now that he supports what King George has created he’s a bad choice to be leading this country out of the nightmare of the last eight years.
I think though unless one of the candidates totally goes off his nut and does something stupid like marrying a robot, that this election is going to be very close like 2000.

He’s right – plain and simple. If a terrorist attack is what we need to elect McCain, I say let the TSA have a break while a flight to Jamaica is boarding……..
