California’s social conservatives keep coming out to show their anti-gay colors.
A group of activists from Save Biblical marriage gathered outside Rio Linda High School yesterday to rally support for Proposition 8, which will overturn this year’s gay marriage win.
Why a high school? The activists are upset that the state’s Teachers Association donated $250,000 to fighting the prohibitive legislation.

I’m just going to take a stab in the dark and guess that maybe teachers support homosexual “marriage” because they’re educated and rational people.
On the other hand, maybe all teachers are Satan’s spawn.

Equality California ran an Excellent ad during the Olympics last night–it was all misty music and sepia images of a bride preparing to walk down the aisle, only things kept stopping her — broken doors, illegally parked cars, a broken heel, a tree snagged her veil, the flower girl tackled her and an old lady tripped her with her cane. The horrified groom was held back from rescuing her by his best man. The tagline: What if you couldn’t marry the person you loved?
It was a high quality and effective ad. My only complaint was that I was curious why it didn’t mention Prop 8, but only gave URLs.
As for the christians v the teachers, I’ll take educators over adherents to a mythological mystery cult any ol’ day.

Let’s see, they’re protesting the fact that teachers are supporting a legal, constitutionally protected activity??
The quotation marks on the signs around the word marriage makes them look increasingly backward at this point. The marriage certificate itself contains no such quotes or asterisks.
(And OK, year-round school and all that, but isn’t it, like, the middle of August? Is the school even open? All we see is the sign.)

EMB — That ad was being shown at fund-raising house parties months ago, before Prop 8 even qualified for the ballot. I haven’t seen it since, but it sounds like they haven’t edited yet. They were just hoping to raise enough money to get it on the air. And they did! It’s a fantastic ad.

I think it’s great that they are protesting teachers at schools. I mean the young people in schools are the most likely to oppose this amendment. The older people who go to church and collect social security are the ones that are the people they should be going after.
I think this will just reenforce for people who trust our schools, teachers and have young children that we need to defeat this amendment.

>Why are our teachers funding homosexual ‘marriage”?
Umm…has anyone asked these Christian assholes why equal opportunity, gay taxpayers are funding heterosexual marriage?
And why are gay taxpayers funding the public education of their progeny?
I’d be interested in hearing their response to those two questions?

‘Prohibitive legislation’. It doesn’t get any plainer than that.
Both the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights are documents guaranteeing the liberties and rights of ALL American citizens, not just certain ones.
All of the amendments that have been made to our Constitution thus far were for the purpose of giving rights, not taking them away.
When was it decided that our Constitution should be used for the purpose of furthering bigotry, hatred and discrimination?
That is not Democracy. It is mob rule.

“All of the amendments that have been made to our Constitution thus far were for the purpose of giving rights, not taking them away.”
…except Prohibition, of course, which pretty much proves the point anyway.

Yes, HYHYBT, I did think of that one while I was typing my post.
Since it was a disaster and was accordingly appealed, there seemed to be no valid reason to include it.
Of the 27 Amendments made to our Constitution, the 18th ((Prohibition) which was later repealed by the 21st Amendment, it was the only ‘prohibitive legislation’ ever to become Constitutional law.

Well, as a gay taxpayer, I support ‘education of others’ progeny’ because those progeny are going to be the people who take care of me in my elder years. I’d rather have them be educated than not! Hopefully not bigoted though…
