Providence Mayor David Cicilline Wins Dem House Nomination, But That’s Not The Only Good Primary News

David Cicilline, the gay mayor of Providence, scored big last night: He took home the Democratic nomination for a U.S. House seat with more than a third of the vote among three other challengers. Turns out voters, at least Democratic ones, really didn’t have a problem with his sexuality. But perhaps yesterday’s major coup was in New York, where Pedro Espada, that jerk off of a state senator and the Senate’s majority leader who helped keep gay marriage off the table for so long, conceded to Gustavo Rivera, a political science professor. (That, and the defeat of NY State Sen. Bill Stachowski, who lost to Tim Kennedy; does Fight Back New York get to take credit?)
