Undocumented Trans & Queer Activists Arrested Near White House to End Detention of LGBTQ Immigrants

from: National LGBTQ Task Force ·
Today, 6 undocumented trans and queer leaders from across the country braved arrest near the White House at the intersection of 16th and K St NW, stopping traffic for over an hour. The protest was to call for an end to the detention of LGBTQ immigrants. LGBTQ immigrants face inhumane conditions in our country's detention centers; housed in profit-driven facilities where they are 15x more likely than others to experience physical assault and rape. There are 267,000 undocumented LGBTQ immigrants in this country who live in fear of detention every day.

The action followed a rally and "die-in" in front of the White House to to symbolize the deaths of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) immigrants in detention, and those LGBTQ immigrants who have been deported back to their death.
