It took Rachel Maddow seventeen whole years to come out! Which, actually, is not a very long time in between being born, realizing you’re “different,” and being comfortable enough with it all to tell the world. It took Ms. Maddow many more years, in fact, to learn she was made for television.

I wish I came out sooner too. I’m so embarrassed how late I came out and I’m younger than Rachel. Not every young person is coming out at 14. I was so ashamed of being attracted to men. It really has changed much since I was a kid. Gay men need to be more open about their relationships and attractions to men.
AlwaysGay
@AlwaysGay: I meant to say “It really has NOT changed much…”
alan brickman
Even if he came out..he would still be a self involved queen…
BOQ
Rach also lied to the American people for two years cheerleading for BO. Now she’s trying to play the shit off like she always knew who he was. Lying is nothing Rach isn’t used to apparently. And after being closeted for all that time she really shouldn’t be preaching ethics on coming out to anyone, no less her 15 y.o. audience. Enjoy your fame ya sellout.
schlukitz
@BOQ:
Bitter much, BOQ?
schlukitz
I came out when I was just 16. Not only did it make me feel better about myself, it allowed me to share my life and my experiences with everyone I love and cared about.
I am now going on 73 and I can honestly say that I have never regretted having done so. based on my own experience, I would definitely encourage anyone to come out if it is at all possible.
And if it is not, I understand that what seems easy for one, is not always the case for another.
CMYK
BOQ, Maddow specifically called out Obama on his refusal to support gay marriage during the election, pointing out that he, Hillary and McCain shared that belief. I also remember her reminding liberals that, if he were elected, Obama probably wouldn’t be the lefty-left “stealth socialist” Republicans were painting him to be.
Also … “all that time” in the closet? She was 17.
schlukitz
@CMYK:
CMYK, there will always be those who feel the need to discredit others, no matter how epic or heroic their efforts.
It should also be noted that these people rarely, if ever, do anything of epic or heroic proportions themselves. ;P
SM
What would have made you all happier?
If Obama had been a vocal supporter of gay marriage during the election and it cost him to lose. Being the first African American Presidential candidate and supporting gay marriage would have been TOUGH in middle America to pull off.
Or would you all be happier if Obama kept his positions like he did so he could WIN and be in a position to help you? Believe it or not, he is not the enemy you think he is.
LBGT people have been lashing out at Obama since last November, months before he took office. It’s wild.
You all are never happy and can never celebrate PROGRESS.
Maybe McCain and Palin should have won…lets see where you all would be then.
MackMike
BOQ, try to ignore those who would seem unappreciative for your well informed comments. Your own Oxford education, your years of deep political study and research, your time among Washington insiders rivals Ms. Maddows and provides you with a unique insig…what? What’s that…oh, you ah…you don’t have an Oxford education? Well, at least you have all those years of political…what was that? You don’t have years of deep political study? Oh, well, you certainly know a few Washington in…what? No? You don’t know any Washington insiders? Well, um…that kind of changes things…but you do know Ms. Maddow personally, right? I mean, you know that she lied to the American People about…what? You, you ah, you don’t know Ms. Maddow? Oh…..well, in that case, thank you for stopping by.
schlukitz
@MackMike:
ROTF and LMAO.
That response to BOQ was absolutely priceless. I can’t stop laughing. 🙂
MackMike
@schlukitz: ;o)
MackMike
@SM: Gee, SM, this thread isn’t about Obama or his stance on Gay issues. One individual in his reply on this thread mentioned Ms. Madow’s reporting on Obama’s stance on gay marriage during the campaign leading up to the election, and she included Clinton and McCain in her reporting on this. GMYK never even mentions his own feelings on the issue, he is just remarking on Maddow journalist integrity in response to BOQ.
I have thus far asked on this site for others to make attempts to be more respectful in their dialogue with you, but I must say that this particular post of yours infers either a hyper sensitivity towards our President, or a possible wish to bait. I really hope it is the former and not the latter.
I would like to remind you that this is a site where gay folks come to read opinions and express opinions. While there are moderators who might filter out comments that are inappropriate (for instance, incite violence), the site is largely uncensored, which is how it should be. Also, we live in a country where we enjoy freedom of speech. In this time of tragic unrest in Iran, where people cannot speak or exchange ideas freely, I would be encouraged by the fact that we can all express our ideas opennly about our President, and celebrate that we are able to do so without threat to our lives.
Because I wish to continue to defend you and encourage you to remain open to our cause, I would like to request that you take a small step back when you read a posting, like that made by GMYK, and try to both understand where a writer might be coming from, and be respectful towards another’s point of view, even when voicing disagreement.
Remember that, though expectations may be a bit lower than they once were in regards to President Obama, the mere fact that we continue to fight to be heard is a manifestation of a hope that still courses through the body of our community.
Namaste85
@MackMike: classic.absolutely hilarious. im a comedian you can write for me any day
MackMike
@Namaste85: I am absolutely honored, thanks Namaste85!
SM
@MackMike:
LOL…at a memeber of the LGBT community saying this is a site for “them” when you all don’t want people doing that to you.
Oh the hypocrits are many
MackMike
@SM: Simply because the site is geared towards the gay community, does not mean that it is exclusively for the gay community.
I worked with a lot of supporters in Orange County, CA, quite a few, actually. I never met anyone who was a supporter who was so incredibly openly hostile to the GLBT community as you are. I hesitate to cast doubt on your claims to have been an ardent supporter, but I am beginning to have my concerns. Are you certain that you’re not here just to unsettle equilibrium, to provoke, perhaps?
Certainly, your tennor is very agitating, and if it approached this in our campaign agaist Proposition 8, I can see why we might have lost.
I have admonished and pleaded with the readers on here to approach you with as much respect as they can muster, I would suggest that you begin to do the same.
Doug
I love Rachel Maddow. She gives a great voice to our cause and is a great role model to us all. Keep up the GREAT work Rachel!
MackMike
@SM: One more thing, like most of my gay brothers and sisters who follow this site, I have been asked not to attend churches when it became known that I was gay, I was kicked off a tennis team when it was rumored that I might be gay (and, I was a nationally ranked player), and I’ve been disowned by family.
Quite frankly, I could care less about anyone or anything welcoming me into their fold. If I experienced as much frustration as you obviously do in visiting this site, I’d simply not return. This is why I don’t pay regular visit to silencingthechristians.com or focusonthefamily.com.
A hypocrit I am not; no one who has ever known me would ever consider calling me such a thing. Name calling, is truly the lowest and least intellectually provocative way of making one’s point.
I don’t wish to belong to your club or anyone elses for that matter. If you are not uplifted by ours, maybe you should dessent, and we will make do with substitute, someone who may not support us as much as you do, but someone more respectful in their conversation; someone like Maggie Gallager or Tony Perkins, perhaps.
SM
@MackMike:
You don’t wish to belong to “my” club? What club exactly do I belong to? I had the largest Baptist Church in Houston tell me I was going to hell because I supported my gay brother. My Father and I did not speak for years because I stood up for my brother.
No offense….but you are the one HATING
MackMike
@SM: S&M, have you read many of your posts on here? Honestly, have you? If so, what is your reading retention, I wonder. You attacked all of us for something that you misread into CYMK wrote. The you misread something that I wrote. I wrote that this was a site that gays came to, which you read as “this is a site for gays,” and then you attacked me, and suggest that we all would be just so very upset if we were denied the right to belong anywhere we pleased, which is very interesting, because it shows a lack of insight. Gay people our consistently denied entry into any number of places, including places of worship, and they are really quite used to it, and typically would not wish to belong.
Lastly, you do intend to offend…that is your intent in most of your postings:
“You all are never happy and can never celebrate PROGRESS.”
“LOL…at a memeber of the LGBT community saying this is a site for “them” when you all don’t want people doing that to you. Oh the hypocrits are many”
You wish to injure, in an effort to pummel someone into accepting your point of view, and you do that thru offending your target.
“hypocrits are many,” indeed. Kind of you to stand up for your brother at the expense of your relationship to your hateful father, but that is no excuse for the bad manners you have consistently demonstrated on this site.
MR
I don’t see how this is supposed to be a message directed to other cable news personalities. It’s a general message to everyone (the many closeted TV news personalities, actors and non famous people), as it should be.
Mary Taylor
@BOQ: Rachel realised she was gay at 17 and came out at 17, i dont see where all this time in the closet is coming from.
i dont think she has sold out. what is there to sell out from? she’s always been open about being gay in terms of being a media personality and has called obama out on his gay rights stance. also she’s raised awareness of dadt more than most, including the interveiw where dan choi came out etc etc
BOQ
Rach is drunk about df percent of her waking hours. That is why she shows up to work in clothes from her hamper. Everyone has a degree these days, it still does not detract that she has as wrong as anyone could ever be on a politician. She may actually be thee stupidest woman on television.
BOQ
I don’t listen to sellout pundit liars who are wrong and change their story every other night based on how the ratings are. not only is she positively the manliest most unattractive butch on tv but she happens to be a sellout and not very intelligent as it turns out. she loves to bash any female poloitician that is female whether they are dem or rep. well go ahead Madcow, eat your fill of obama.
BOQ
lots of typos as iam on the train. but anyone who kisses madbrows but is a desperdo trying to get her attention. I would say kissing up to a liar pundit like her will get you nowhere. buy her a case of vodka, that will work a lot better. she has a serious drinking problem that she, like most addicts advetise wherever they go. she probably picked up that addiction during her ‘deep studies’ at oxford. woopie.
Dennis
@BOQ:
Did you pay extra for your double helping of stoopid? Or did they toss it in for free when you purchased your “How to be an ignorant misogynist in your spare time” kit?
She calls out the Obama administration when they screw up (on gay issues, DadT, the DOMA brief, etc.) She also offers fair coverage on, you know, like some other issues that may be important, like the economy, world affairs, healthcare reform…minor stuff like that…
And yes, she does offer Obama praise when the administration makes the right call (like Obama’s truth telling speech in Cairo last month)…She is one of the most talented and well informed reporters at work today…maybe you prefer the lying fembots at Fox News?
schlukitz
@Dennis:
Dennis, Queerty seems to be attracting more than it’s share of whackos as of late.
BOQ should simply be regarded as the latest arrival.
MackMike
@Dennis: Honestly, BOQ, you shouldn’t be trying to type and conduct the train at the same time. For now, concentrate on punching the tickets.
schlukitz
@BOQ:
lots of typos as iam on the train
Was it the Washington D.C. Metro by any chance?
Robert H
@MackMike: I nearly spit out my coffee that was so funny, MackMike.
Robert H
@BOQ: why are you such a cunt?
MackMike
@Robert H: Robert, you’d be a cunt too if you were married to SM. “No offense,” (in SM’s words), but I’m just sayin’
schlukitz
@MackMike:
Laughing at Robert’s reaction to your comments. You keep me in stitches as well.
You do have a way with words. ;o)
MackMike
Thanks guys. I think the gay community is quick witted because humor is both deflecting and so very healing.
dlpca
OK, I am Gay but I simply adore and unashamedly love Rachel Maddow.I hereby nominate her as the LGBT National Community Equal Rights Leader / Spokesperson. We have no leadership toward equality! Rachel Maddow is the ideal choice.
First of all, she is Lesbian, in a stable LTR, articulate, educated, a person of current celebrity and has considerable national / international media connections and influence. Think about it, our leader has to be a woman to fairly represent the minority and the vulnerable. She will definitely offset the all-male thinking, the hating, homophobic attitudes arguing against equality. Besides, have you ever heard a man win an argument with a woman? Lastly, I seriously think she has the right stuff to get our message heard, respected and responded to where it matters.
So let’s get this campaign rolling for Rachel Maddow to be our National LGBT Leader toward equal rights.
Rachel Maddow, now!
schlukitz
@dlpca:
I could support that. I think that Rachael Maddow is a great spokesperson for the entire LGBT community.
As a gay man, I would be very proud to see her as our leader.
MackMike
@dlpca: I was hoping for BOQ or SM, or their love child; but golly, your idea may be loads better! Plus, unlike the aforementioned options, she won’t eat her own. I’m down with that!
Christian
I like Rachel. And I find her attractive and sexy as a woman and attractive and sexy as a person. If she made some mistakes about the real character of Obama, how many hundreds of millions of Americans have not done so too? When you’re duped by a cheater, this means you’re most probably not a lying cheating fraudulent crook yourself. Damn I really like Rachel. Would that she were my neighbour.
rick
she is smart and she is informed. and she askes questions and lets the people answer them and explain, totally unlike fox news where what you are saying had better agree with what the host is saying.
rick
evidently she read or reads the comic book thor. she has mentioned in the past just staying in bed and reading comic books.
J
I don’t think she’s ugly at all. I actually find her very beautiful. She’s smart, funny and a great role model. I honestly don’t understand all the hate, every post turns into a bitching fest when someone famous happens to say something nice. The enemy is within you, it’s said. How true.
BOQ
when homosexual duders find her sexy ‘”LOL that speaks volumes about her manly+ness. rachel is an alcoholic everyone knows it and makes fun of her for it she is an embarrassment to me bc of it. the righr have perfect ammo with her. the only reason she is anywhere is bc she got famous for associating herself with Barack. not only is she uninteresting but she sold her community out and threw eveyone under the bus bc she was BOs biggest liar. she is a sellout and will be gone soon enough. BO is finished using the sellout. Queerty kisses her but bc they pray one day he/she will mention their blog. more sellouts.
BOQ
Rachel Maddow, embarrassment drunk.
schlukitz
@BOQ:
The only one drunk around here, judging from your “slurred” writing, is YOU!
GrrrlRomeo
Oh neat. You used my YouTube clip.
EE Keller
BBQ is like a peeping tom that talks! YIKES!
