As Barack Obama gets closer and closer to locking up the Democratic nomination, the hootin’ and hollerin’ about him being a buh-lack Muzzlin is gaining volume.
The t-shirt at right is for sale in a bar in Cobb County, Georgia; in Indiana, one Obama campaigner was told by a citizen: “Hang that darkie from a tree!“; and it is widely accepted that part of the reason Obama was defeated by such a huge margin in yesterday’s West Virgina primary is because of the color of his skin.
queerunity
maybe a black president will elicit racism for a while but ultimately i hope and think it will change hearts and minds

MJ
Hauslaib and Belonsky claim Queerty is free of an agenda except for that gay one. I think their anti-Caucasian bias has always been clear.
george
MJ-oh please! You think exposing blantant anti-black racism is anti-Caucasian? I think the next thing Queerty should expose is racism directed against Obama by upper middle class white gay guys!
MJ
No, George, actually it’s not because of this story specifically (of course I think anti-black racism is awful). It’s the way they choose to ignore far more numerous accounts of black homophobia and choose specific cases of white homophobia.
hells kitchen guy
Unfortunately, these bubbas are only expressing what a lot of people feel in private – even won’t admit to themselves. We saw it in W. Va.
The Democrats have managed to anoint the candidate least likely to win in a year they should have breezed to victory. And the GOP, alas, has managed to stumble on their least-objectionable candidate.
I’ll enthusiastically vote for Obama, but I’m practicing saying “President McCain.”
Kevin
It is in reading these types of stories which expose an ugly side of the American people that I have a hard time remembering that what unites is far greater than what divides us.
MJ
Hell’s Kitchen Guy : At the end of the film Queen Christina, there’s a long close-up of intense Greta Garbo’s face that everyone was impressed by. A classic film image. Many asked over the years what she was thinking in that shot, and she said the director told her to let her mind go totally blank, to become a beautiful mask, and let members of the audience individually imagine what her expression means. To a certain extent, that’s Obama. A blank that so many people were able to throw the costume of their high hopes over.
Charley
Anyway, Obama is half caucasion and his values are universal rather than white racist like Hillary or Afro-centric like Rev. Wright. Documented.
BillieXX
“I think their anti-Caucasian bias has always been clear.”
That’s funny.
MJ
No, it’s not funny, BillieXX. It shows how misguided (and vicious) some gay men become.
BillieXX
MJ,
Naw. It’s funny. Especially if you think this site has “anti-Caucasian bias.” There are lot of things you can say about Queerty but to call it biased against whites says more about the person making the charge, not the site.
And how is it misguided or vicious to point out bigotry, no matter where it comes from?
Tom
I think the fact that a black guy named Obama will soon be the Democatic nominee says a lot about how far the country has progressed in terms of race relations. Particularly since he beat the presumptive nominee.
But we should not bury our heads in the sand about the racism and hate that still exists out there. It is not anti-Caucasian to expose the hate of racists. Remember, those same people who say “hang the darkie from a tree” also believe and say “hang the jew, hang the fairy, hang the whoever does not look like me from the tree.”
Unlike some of the naysayers, I think Obama has a chance to win it all in November. I know its hard to believe after we lost with Gore and Kerry, but if you are a Democrat, you should ride this historic moment and show the racists that we are better than that.
MJ
BillieXX : Are you aware of their coverage of the Duke lacrosse case? Innocent white guys and their families were attacked by the most vicious black homophobes of N.C., and what did Queerty do? Did they point out how homophobes are so sick that they also attack innocent people? No! They instead went after one of the victims, Colin Finnerty, because he’d been convicted of a fight in D.C. and called the other guy “gay”. I know the Finnertys somewhat. They’re nice people, very charitable (who even virtually single-handedly built a hospital in Africa). Yet Queerty went after HIM, instead of the homophobic (murderously homophobic) and anti-Semitic New Black Panthers chanting “Guilty guilty guilty!” and black activist homophobe Victoria Peterson screaming to burn the house down (literally). Is there anything that can explain Queertys coverage except for anti-white bias?
James
MJ,
So you are going to insist that because the folk at Queerty went after one of the gentleman in the Duke lacrosse case, that is an example of anti-white bias? And who pays attention to the New Black Panthers anyway? Are they a group with any clout, minus their ranting? Finally are you a good judge of anti-white bias? You seem to have a connection to the very case you are brining up? Call it shoddy journalism if you must, but anti-white bias is a stretch.
Gregoire
Anti-white bias?! On Queerty? THIS Queerty?
MJ – PLEASE go away. There must be a white supremacy site you can go wax poetic with your ridiculous viewpoints.
Afroguapo
MJ:
I think BillieXX makes a very valid point that this site is hardly anti-Caucasian and it says more about the person making the incredulous charge, than anything about the site. Queerty has well documented McClurkin, Meeks, Jamaica’s retrograde views, those two black women at colleges/high schools and their blatant homophobia (or self-hatred in McClurkin’s case). It seems you have some axe to grind in bringing up an isolated incident (Finnerty) and making that somehow dispositive of Queerty’s purported anti-white bias. Living in the NYC region and New England all my life, I guess I, like most of you on here, have been somewhat isolated from such blatant racism and ignorance (I am more familiar with the subtle type or blatant only if it’s done through the medium of the internet and thus anonymous) and wish that our mason-dixon line and fly-over zone fellow Americans could embrace some aspects (e.g., not being afraid of diversity) of East and West Coast culture. Oh and props to Queerty to posting that article about Michelle Obama’s white lesbian roommate who was raised in a racist family and showing their evolution and progress over time. I sent it to my mother and she absolutely loved it. Being the cynic, I am starting to feel like Hells Kitchen Guy, that McCain may very well win this because of internecine conflict within the Democratic party — read the crazy posts on here coming from some gay men of all people, HRC’s vainglorious agenda to win at any and all costs because this is owed to her and that there are still many racist people who refuse to live in a modern and increasingly diverse world. And ashamedly, I confess that there is an extremely small part of me that will have some degree of schadenfreude if McCain does win partly attributable to the HRC zealous fans who say they will vote for him if HRC doesn’t get the nomination and they’ll truly see the effects of someone who is pro-war continuing Bush’s legacy sending their kids or relatives off to war, who admittedly says the economy is not his strong-suit, who wants to preserve Bush’s tax cuts permanently, who will appoint conservative justices (anti-gay) to the Supreme Court to solidify his rank among the conservative constituency that he’s been alienated from, etc. and these people will face the consequences of their acts. Queerty, can you do some posting on that fierce gay Gore Vidal and his “The United States of Amnesia”? WBAI 99.5 is featuring Vidal in interview footage this week. Regards, Afro

PS:
Please forgive my multiple spelling errors.

I don’t know what MJ really thinks, but a local radio DJ guy here followed the Duke lacrosse case pretty much every day. I am amazed that the woman making the charge against the players was not examined at all prior to filing the of the case by the DA. She was about the least reliable witness and frankly she should be charged with a crime for ruining those guys lives with all her lying. I don’t want to rehash it all, but if all this was known BEFORE Queerty went after Finnerty, well then, why did they?
Tom
The real story here is about someone advocating “hang the darkie from a tree” in rference to the Democratic nominee for president and some of you want to talk about whether Queerty is anti-white and the Duke lacrosse case?
Classic maneuver to deflect away from a reality that makes us uncomfortable and then to cry reverse discrimination. Who are these people? Right-wing moles?
James
Oh please. Listen there is a whole lot to be funky about when it comes to the Duke case ( the coach was thrown to the wolves); however, to make the charge this site is anti-white is a leap only those with a big axe to grind make.
hisurfer
I’m glad Obama is closer to getting the nomination (and I’m a working class white guy, so take that HRC) and I’m hoping (though I’m not sure) that overt acts of racism like these will be isolated and minor.
I’m much more worried by people like MJ who will cry that someone is ‘anti-caucasian’ for pointing out race, or racism, or even having a discussion on it. I’m a bit shocked at the number of gay men I know whom I thought were progressive, and who certainly like a black cock up their asses, who argue that Obama, his wife, and his supporters practice ‘reverse racism’ and all that.
MJ
Very well, guys. You say my Finnerty point does not prove anti-white bias on this site? (You point out that Queerty doesn’t show such bias because they have covered Isaiah Washington, etc, which are fair points) But what other explanation- besides anti-white racism- is there for Queerty to have totally ignored how badly black homophobes acted in the Duke case (the story of homophobes behaving badly in all other things is handed to them on a plate, right there) and yet gone after one of the victims of the case, and to call him a rapist and a homophobe (acting as sick as those in WV who attacked Obama)? (Was it anti-Catholic? Anti-New Yorker? Anti-Irish?) Why don’t the queerty guys answer this, instead of hiding out from it?
MJ
BTW : Just to confirm. My point is not that there’s anything “okay” about that racist Obama mockery. It’s horrible, juvenile, mean-spirited, and just stupid. But Queerty is no better. They tried to hurt an innocent person, in a story that had plenty of homophobic villains (making it, I would think, much more relevant to their gay agenda). So…?
James
Grind that axe brother MJ. I’m done!
MJ
But answer the question before you run, James.
Len
But, MJ, you’ve only used one example to try to make your point. Can you make it without beating the Duke case to death? People might be more willing to hear you.
MJ
Well….not until there’s an alternate explanation for Queerty’s Duke coverage, Len.
Carlos
I believe part of the blame for the negative tone of the current campaign can be attributed to Clinton. Her attack on Obama as elitist and that she has more white support highlighted the personal trait differences and then people naturally could identify with her. Clinton’s campaign tactics whether intentional or not have been racist.
MJ
BTW : Len, if somebody burned just ONE cross on a black family’s lawn, would you ask, “But that’s just one example. I need more to believe that person’s racist.”?
MJ
BTW : To James. I missed it up above, but at least you did give me an alternate explanation for Queerty: shoddy journalism. Maybe. Thanks for that, anyway.
MJ
Okay…I guess until the queertys give an explanation for it themselves…there are a number of possibilities. I still believe my own conclusion. (AND, guys, I did contact both Andrew Belonsky and David Hauslaib, telling them I’d meet them anytime in NYC to discuss it in person, but the request was ignored. They’re just lucky there are so many others on the list ahead of them getting their pants sued off. The falsely-accused of that case might never even get around to the blogs).
James
Okay I’m breaking my vow this one time. First off here is the link to the Duke entry:
http://www.queerty.com/breaking-news-lacrosse-rapists-have-a-taste-for-gay-bashing-20060418/
Everything cited, even the gay bashing, is part of the public record. And there is nothing in the entry that meets your charges. You would be on better ground if you were writing about the Grace woman on CNN (she wasn’t anti-white, but she sure had those kids guilty). Lastly, why should the Queerty folk meet with you MJ? You a lawyer for one of the accused? Someone important? Someone they need to talk to? Meeting with you would have done what? You are a nameless faceless guy making outlandish accusations on a website.
Okay I’m done. Really and truly. And Queerty boys? I hope my check for this vigourous defense is in the mail!
CHURCHILL-Y
No. 4, No. 7 MJ , you nailed it.
They won’t comprehend what you wrote though.
Amazing how the afrocentric thugs gang up people!
NObama!!!
Bitch Republic
MJ, your comments in No. 7 above are so very apt. That explains Obama followers perfectly. I’m annoyed that Queerty would say the only reason Hillary could possibly win with big numbers is because people are racist.
Nitesurf
Wow, how fortunate for MJ to have another racist asshole supporting his idiotic views.
DanGOP
Going back to the topic at hand, not Obama’s anti-Caucasian racism (as shown by his writings, his actions, and his decision to stick by Jeremiah Wright and Trinity UCC, until they began hurting his campaign), I find what was said disgusting. It should not be said or felt, even though people have the right to do both. But that’s just my opinion.
Tom
When they came for the “darkies” I did nothing. When they came for the “Jews” I did nothing. Now they are coming for the “gays” and there is no one left but me.
Bitch Republic
So, I guess Queerty could say the only reason Obama won states like South Carolina (and other states with large African American populations) is because the African Americans there are racist and voted 90% for Obama??
Afroguapo
Bitch, that’s an inapt comparison and sophmoric reasoning. Black people have been staunch supporters of the Clintons and are mortified at the race games she and Bill have been playing feeling that she’s a traitor of their allegiance. Moreover, blacks have supported BHO for his position on the war (never being a warhawk like HRC) and not sending off their kids/relatives to fight this war (e.g., rich white men make wars, poor whites, blacks and hispanics fight them), his goal to have more transparent government, to reduce the undue enrichment of corporations and corporate heads, to improve our infrastructure (healthcare, education, roads/bridges, etc.) and ameliorate the lives of working class regular everyday people (themselves) and yes, his being black is icing on the cake for some as it demonstrates that our nation is progressive and not limited to just having white male leaders. You’ll note that blacks were not vigorous supporters of Alan Keyes or Carol Moseley Braun so no, your logic is faulty as black support for BHO is based on his position statements and his humble Horatio Alger story rather than any antipathy for whites. Additionally, you don’t see black people resorting to the same vile acts of depicting HRC in some racist anti-white manner on a t-shirt or uttering “lynch that portly white hag/B___h.”
Bitch Republic
Afroguapo, there are plenty of reasons why people support Hillary Clinton that have nothing to do with race. So, I don’t think it is correct when Queerty basically says white people are racist if they don’t support Obama.
It is unacceptable and totally batshit crazy to say things like “Hang that darkie from a tree,” but I don’t appreciate people lumping all Clinton supporters into that racist category.
Bitch Republic
Also Afroguapo, I wasn’t saying that African Americans only support Obama because he is black. I was making a rhetorical argument that QUEERTY’s reasoning that white people support Hillary because they’re racist is inept and sophomoric by using the example of overwhelming support of the African American community for Obama.
walt zipprian
Stop respondig to bitchrepublic and mj. They are trolls. And they are probably paid by the hrc campaign.
Plus, they are retarded.
walt zipprian
plus, I can’t spell to well.
Afroguapo
Bitch:
Certainly there are reasons as to why some people support HRC which are not due to race. And Queerty’s link supports that contention as it states: “it is widely accepted that PART of the reason Obama was defeated by such a huge margin in yesterday’s West Virgina primary is because of the color of his skin” So implicitly there are some who were for HRC because of her platform and experience and others because she is white or because they don’t want a black man in office. And HRC knows this which is why she signaled “hard working, white Americans” to all the xenophobes in West Virginia and elsewhere as though BHO cannot feel their plight and “is not one of us” That is part and parcel of her sales pitch, plain and simple. Walt, I should have taken your note to heart but I couldn’t resist. Cannot believe I come across such ignorance among gay people as I’ve always expected more from us — boy was I mistaken.
Stenar
PLEASE. The Obama followers are the ignorant ones.
Bitch Republic
I wish someone was paying me. No, I’ve donated lots of dollars to HRC’s campaign. I am not a troll just because I don’t buy Obama’s blank slate campaign and I’m not afraid to express my opinion.
Bitch Republic
People like Walt try and stifle other people’s opinions by making their attacks personal rather than discussing ideas.
RPCV
Barack Hussein scares the shit out of me. I don’t trust him. Why did he sit in the pews all those years knowing the venom that Rev. Wright was spewing?? Barack’s lame cover-up of the truth about his not knowing the heart of Rev. Wright by saying that he “just didn’t hear those things” doesn’t cut it with me. And his wife, geez – talk about a loose cannon saying she was only recently proud of America?? The two of them in the White House will be the straw that breaks this country’s back – we’ll need decades to recover from W, but I suspect we’d never recover from Barack Hussein. I’ll hold me nose and vote for McCain – the 100% white meat……
Mike
You have every reason to be scared. I hear that once Obama is elected, there is a secret plan to change the title from president to Sheik. And all the cabinet officers will be knowns as Muftis. And then all whites and Christians will be sent to re-education camps and forced to watch Rev. Wright and Farakhan tapes all day.
Oh, I am so scared. Can someone save us from the big, bad black monster?
SeaFlood
… you bitches wear me out.
Kid A
@49:
Thank you, Mike.
In all reality, why can’t anti-Obamites pin anything to him? They all have to trash people he knows. I’m thinking Bitch Republic would be fucked for public office due to association with the racist and offensive shirts for sale. “Deport Pedro”?
To quote BR: “People like Walt try and stifle other people’s opinions by making their attacks personal rather than discussing ideas.” Really, Bitch Republic? I seem to recall “asshat Obama supporter” being the only words you could get out for the last few months. You keep it classy.
And perhaps it’s an ad hominem, but BR, your shirts suck. Nothing personal.
Bitch Republic
Awww… all the Obama followers can do is make personal attacks.
Kid A
So BR, if you’re sick of personal attacks, do you care to comment about your constant use of “asshat” to describe Obama and his supporters?
Bitch Republic
I have not constantly referred to Obama and his followers as asshats.
Mr C
There is nothing personal. But that Tee-Shirt if he was up North he would be fucked up for sure. But that’s the South and that is how the South is and will never change.
But it’s cool Obama is in the lead!
But on another note. Some of you Mofo’s talk you like pack a nice punch.
But I doubt that. That why girls talk shit ONLINE
This is so FUNNY!
Bitch Republic
I just think the “Deport Pedro” tshirt is funny. My grandmother, Zella Cecelia ROMERO, is hispanic. I definitely don’t have any issues with hispanic people in America, since I am 1/4 hispanic. It’s just a spoof of the “Vote for Pedro” tshirts that were everywhere a year or two ago.
Mr C
Just curious B Republic. Do you have any issues with any minority group in America?
MJ
LOL. I love you clowns saying I work for Hillary. In fact, admirably Obama was the only candidate to say Nifong needed investigation. And the author of the main book on the case, UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT (which even got high praise from the ACLU) is a big Obama supporter.////////James : I offered for them to meet me in person (or at least email me back) because they refuse to take account on the blog for what they’ve done. I thought, if they’re embarrassed, let them admit it in private. /////Another alternate explanation is that they were involved somehow in the crimes themselves. At the height of the hoax in 2006, the names and home addresses of the Duke lacrosse team were made public by SOMEBODY, and handed out to the New Black Panthers and other psychopaths. (Imagine the uproar if the KKK was given the home addresses of black males accused of a crime?) These were their private homes, where old folks, parents, children, pets live. Did Queerty have something to do with that?////Anyone calling me a “troll” is a retard. [email protected]
MJ
Thank you, James, for a least giving me a substantial argument here. But if you go back to the article you cite (as well as a second one) you’ll see they’re factually incorrect. Finnerty is guilty of a queer-bashing “here and there” ?? He’s not guilty of ONE. “Seems he likes beating up queers” ? Factually wrong, in so many ways. Queerty has done something illegal, and immoral (for not following the story to its conclusion, and for ignoring the real villains and the real homophobes in the case). Merely lousy reporting? Maybe. But with that comes the responsibility to correct.
