Rand Paul’s wife, Kelley, got a jumpstart on marking Transgender Day of Visibility by firing off a psychotic tweet ranting and raving about Chinese third graders, math, and men having babies.

OK first, we would like to meet these Chinese third graders learning multi-variable calculus. Second, sex ed is definitely not being taught to third graders in the United States. And third, Kelley’s tweet, like Kelley herself, is complete garbage. Sadly, it’s right on brand for the extreme right-wing activist and frequent guest on Fox News.

Mrs. Paul has quite a history of saying stupid things on social media. Last week, she tweeted about her outrage over an elementary school in Austin, Texas that held a Pride parade for students back in April 2021. Last month, she tweeted her support for transphobic children’s author JK Rowling. And last year, she accused ’80s singer Richard Marx, best known for his 1989 worldwide hit single “Right Here Waiting”, of trying to get her husband killed.

We’re sure Kelley’s transphobic tweet being fired off the day before Transgender Day of Visibility, an annual event occurring on March 31 that celebrates trans people and raises awareness of the discrimination they still face worldwide, was no coincidence.

My niece, who’s in second grade, continually amazes me with what she’s learning about in school. Things that I didn’t learn until much, much later! And things I never learned AT ALL, like how many wives Paul Revere had (two). But one thing that she’s not learning is sex ed, that I’m sure of.
As for Chinese third graders learning calculus, well, good for them if they are that smart. I barely got through trigonometry (and it didn’t help that my teacher had both Welsh and Australian accents, at 8:00 in the morning!).

It is quite ironic that she would complain about our education system. One that her husband, and father-in-law, perpetually tries/tried to get more and more defunded. You can’t willfully try to break something and when it finally succumbs, point to it and say, “see I told you it wouldn’t work.” Esp considering these same people have no solutions otherwise to offer up.

Just a reminder, based on very recent polling, that the majority of US school children (80 percent) are enrolled in public schools and of that number, 70 percent of parents are happy with their children’s education. The main group of people who are complaining about public school education are people who do not have children in public schools, particularly people who have aged out of children of school age. I.e., seniors, especially on the right.

The only thing a third graders will ever learn about sexual orientation is that you shouldn’t treat people differently because of who they love.

Mrs. Paul’s contribution to building up one of the Republican wedge issues for the coming election. And Queerty, like so many lazy media outlets, takes the bait and parrots her remark so that everyone can discuss what the Republicans have decided is a (wedge) issue. Could it be any easier for them?
Also, if it’s so great in China where they quarantine Shanghai, a city of tens of millions, because of a few Covid cases, why doesn’t she move there?

I could almost understand this line of reasoning, if they championed science and education in general. But they don’t, they just want Jesus in school.
Let’s see calculus, LGBTQ or Jesus… Hmmm, let’s have a primer.
1) Calculus: Elegant math that starts out very simply but it is used to describe many, many complex occurrences in nature.
2) LGBTQ: Our community. We are in every culture.
3) Jesus: Cool guy. Gets nailed to a tree for saying we should be nice to each other.
We won’t do calculus, because you need a brain that can do some critical thinking. The right hates thinking.
We should teach LGBTQ in schools, because we are real people of all ages; learning this is in school would be good for all of us. That can’t happen. The right hates us.
That leaves Jesus. We have this crumbling idea of the separation of Church from State. We’ll probably get this, because the right loves Jesus even if they are not necessarily familiar or follow his dogma.
The thing is you can teach what Christ said without actually using Jesus.

Ironically neither thing is true except maybe in some very rare case. That said, I do believe all third graders are more prepared to learn about the wonderful variety of human existence than calculus.
No idea, by the way, what multi-variable calculus is or how it differs from calculus. I mean single variable calculus would be X=3…which isn’t really calculus, is it.
Also, to be clear, men cannot give birth to babies. Trans men can give birth to babies. I hope that any education be clear on this. I can imagine third grade boys thinking they can give birth would be a bit traumatic.

I took DIFEQ in college. I’m talented in math and it was a difficult class. I was a junior in college. Somehow I don’t think even Chinese third graders could grasp the concepts of DIFEQ. Anyone who ever had the class can testify it’s a difficult class.
