Netflix has released Danish TV documentary series “I Am the Ambassador” for streaming. The six-episode series follows U.S. ambassador to Denmark Rufus Gifford. The series dates back to 2014, but this release will bring it to a much wider audience.

Gifford admits that when he agreed to make the series he did not anticipate this, writing on Instagram that he thought only a “few thousand people would see it.”
“While I am incredibly nervous about the show being aired all over the world — especially in my home country — I believe in it with all my heart,” he added.

Billy Budd is spot on with his comments about how fantastic we gay men are at thriving in international postings. I don’t know if he’s speaking from first or second hand experience or speculating. I lived and worked in Japan, SE Asia, HK, S Korea & Australia for almost twenty years. And as Billy suggests I was not alone. In the eighties and most of the nineties being out and being employed in banking iN the West (let alone Asia and Japan) was an inconsistent statement. Once the clouds parted and enlightenment shown down, we looked around and were amazed at how many “single” men there were. Initially, some personnel guys (women? c’mon) weren’t crazy about the idea that they had employed or were subservient to so many gay men. The few that really didn’t like it said, “Well, they’re a lot cheaper than a married guy with a wife and kids”.
