Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the birth of his new “Religious Liberty Task Force” at the Justice Department this week. Because who needs that whole separation of church and state thing anyway?
Sessions said that the election of Donald Trump has presented conservatives with a “rare opportunity” to stop a “dangerous movement, undetected by many” that is eroding white Christian supremacy religious freedom.
The task force will serve a watch dog of all federal agencies to make sure they “respect and protect the freedom of persons and organizations to engage in religious and political speech.”

Many human rights and LGBTQ advocates are concerned the task force is just another tactic for the Trump Administration to roll back equal rights. And they’re right! That’s exactly what it is.
“This taxpayer funded task force is yet another example of the Trump-Pence White House and Jeff Sessions sanctioning discrimination against LGBTQ people,” HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow said in a statement this week.
We’d also add that it’s just creepy. And many folks on Twitter seem to agree.
You shitting me? Religious Liberty Task Force? Republicans need religious freedom lesson. 1st amendment written to prevent religious persecution. Freedom from religion, not freedom to be intolerant of others based on religion. Keep your religion out of my government and schools

My faith is my own. And having a governmental TASK FORCE to protect religious freedom should scare any critical thinker. This made me nauseous. Will Muslims be equally protected? @HandmaidsOnHulu much? Under his eye for real?!

I will not be satisfied until the Religious Freedom Task Force goes to war against the Space Force.

The Religious Freedom Task Force is like a task force to make sure white people are holding up okay.

Now, the memes…

“A dangerous movement, undetected by many, is now challenging and eroding our great tradition of religious freedom. There can be no doubt. This is no little matter. It must be confronted and defeated.”

I hope we are going to do more than mock them with memes. They are deadly serious. And yes, we LGBTQ are included in this “dangerous movement” that will be targets of this new government sanctioned Evangelical Task Force.

Yep. Besides getting conservative hacks on the bench this will be another straw in the Religious Reich Wings hat to go after their favorite targets.
They were never discriminated against. So transparent.

I think the caption for that picture at the top of this article should read: “Mike Pence and Jeff Sessions announce their engagement.” Such happy looking couple, aren’t they?

I can’t believe these twits haven’t died yet. Trump especially. Lying about his official height, lying about his official weight, he must be so obese that he’s a cheeseburger away from a heart attack. How is he somehow our oldest president?
Kangol
Gotta love that the Trumpkin is now begging Sessions to “un-recuse” himself because the investigation into Agent Orange team’s obvious collusion/conspiracy with Russia, and his subsequent overt obstruction, are starting to nail his treasonous behind to the wall. But back to these two Talevangelicals, Pence and Sessions, they couldn’t care less about “religious liberty”; they just want another way to discriminate against LGBTQ people and others they believe are less than human.

“These “Religious Liberty Task Force” memes make the whole thing slightly less creepy”
Uh…..NO, they don’t. This is going to be very, very bad. Just wait.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
I unfortunately have to 1000% co-sign your post. 🙁

Even though Gay & Lesbian folks have made great strides over the past several years, thanks to the brave work of many before us, we must remember a couple of things: 1. Just because great strides towards equality and equal treatment have been made, it doesn’t mean that those who oppose us have gone away. 2. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 covers folks on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
Sexual orientation was never part of the Civil Rights Act. If it had been, we wouldn’t have some of these issues we still have today. To anyone on the liberal left who think we must eliminate our Constitution, or drastically change it, just remember why the 1st Amendment and the 2nd Amendment were put into the Constitution by our forefathers. They didn’t put those two amendments in 1st & 2nd for no reason. They were very wise.
