Renato Seabra, the 21-year-old Portuguese model who confessed to killing and castrating activist and journalist Carlos Castro, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder charges yesterday. “We plan a vigorous defense,” says his attorney. Oh good, so they’re going to make prosecutors take him to trial and put on display all of the horrific shit Seabra (allegedly!) did.

I can guess who is paying for his defense.
ewe
Insanity or panic defense? I wonder which one it will be. That twisted brat better not pretend to be some insecure heterosexual.

@ewe: It’ll be the Panic defense, his family is already saying he wasn’t gay! If every gay guy killed a straight woman that made sexual advances towards them There would be nothing but lesbians left!

If possible, you should get a hold of the Facebook messages exchanged between Castro and Renato. I read them in Portuguese, but I’m assuming they’re available in English somehwere in the Internet. Castro is the one who initiated the contact. As I read in a comment posted by someone else in another related article, it appears as though Castro literally “hunted” Renato down after seeing him in the Portuguese reality show “O Procuro do Sonho” in which new modeling talent competed. Renato did not win but was runner up. In his interviews he comes across as rather shy, very calm, extremely polite, and just an all around decent guy. He stressed his family and family values, his devotion to God, and his humility is clearly not faked. Castro sent him a message via Facebook and asked him to be his friend. After a series of exchanges over the course of no more than one week, Castro was already proclaiming to his friends that he had found the love of his life. And he had not even met Renato in person yet!! Where Renato clearly made the wrong choice was when he saw the prospects of a relationship with Castro as a means of advancing his modeling career. Renato should not have let his ambitions lead him down the road where he eventually compromised himself and all that he believed and stood for. Nevertheless, the entire exchange of messages clearly show what in essence is Castro seducing Renato by promising him to introduce him to influential people who could help Renato in his modeling ambitions. If for no other reason, Castro is clearly more at fault for the way this whole sordid chain of events began. And please don’t forget, Castro was 65 and Renato was only 20. I always presumed that with age came maturity and wisdom. Clearly not in this case. But then again, Castro didn’t give a damn; all he cared about was satisfying his own selfish desires– no matter what the cost. And what a cost indeed. As lamentable as the loss of ANY human life is, including Castro’s, by far the biggest loss here is Renato’s future. His life will never be the same again. As always, may God bless you Renato and hopefully your life will indeed be restored to you. CORAGEM RENATO!!

It appears Renato was clearly out of his element and got involved in a world with which he was completely unfamiliar. It also appears that Castro used this to his advantage in manipulating Renato into a situation advantageous to himself. Renato specifically said to his mother in a phone call he placed to her on the day Castro died that he felt trapped and that he felt he was being “bought” and that he felt “trapped” with all the the luxury and its surrounding trappings that Castro and his friends were surrounding him. Renato expressed his desire to escape from this world because it was clearly not a world in which he felt comfortable. He ended the phone call, which he placed on a cell phone that he borrowed from someone on the street outside the Intercontinental Hotel, by begging his mother for the funds to buy a ticket to return to Portugal as soon as possible. All this happened immediately prior to his going back into the hotel and subsequent tragic event that led to Castro’s death and Renato’s current predicament. One can only speculate what had happened to Renato prior to his placing that phone call and speculate even more what happened to Renato after he went back into the Intercontinental Hotel after the phone call and its resulting disastrous consequences. I personally feel extremely sorry for Renato because it appears he was being manipulated as well as being taken advantage of by Castro. I lament Castro’s death, but I must honestly say that if Renato had been my son, and I came across anyone who was doing to him what Castro was doing to Renato…. give me the corkscrew…. I’ll take care of business. I find myself having this reaction being a completely detached party, so I can only imagine what Renato must have felt. This is why I truly believe he lost it and as a result appears to have committed this horrible act. All this should not have happened… it was avoidable… if Castro had not been the predator that he was and not gone after Renato in the manner that he did. I still do not excuse Renato for exercising poor judgment himself by thinking that he could use Castro and his promises to further his career ambitions… but surely, the person who is by far the most to blame for these disastrous events is none other than Castro himself.

I am so tired of you people who paint Renato as an innocent victim. The fact that you sympathize with a psychotic murderer says a lot about your own character. It’s like those women who fall in love with death row inmates. I’m sure that you would like to “save” (read fuck) Renato.
Faro32
It’s not that Renato is completely innocent… but rather that Castro is by far the guiltier party. This is irrefutable! And in the process a decent young man’s life has been destroyed.
Soupy
Irrefutable if your morality is so twisted and you as well suffer from psychosis. Only one of the two committed a crime. A brutal mutilation and murder. If that makes one less guilty, I’m sure that you feel that raped women were asking for it. Stop making me sick please.
Porto27
O que e’ Voce’? E gay o alguma coisa? What are you gay or something? Any normal person can see that Castro was by far guiltier.
Soupy
“Normal”? You are either a homophobic, hypocritical christian or a self-loathing, closeted gay man who cannot deal with his own feelings of lust for a hot young man who murders, so you become an apologist. What are you doing on this site? Cruising?
Faro32
O Porto27.. acho que tal vez este sitio e’ um sitio para os gays. Mae minha!! Whoa… stumbled onto a fag site… Renato will be proven innocent… what he did is completely understandble given the preceding and surrounding circumstances. MUITA FORCA RENATO!! CORAGEM RENATO!!
Soupy
Nobody “stumbles” onto a “fag site” named Queerty. Give it up sister.
Soupy
And Renato will not be found innocent. Not guilty by reason of insanity maybe, but that’s a difficult one to prove in court.
ewe
OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!
Porto27
Istos marikas americanos sao increivles! I didn’t know American fags were so violent! Castro must have been influenced by types such as these in his many trips to New York and subsequently abused a decent, innocent Portuguese young straight man like Renato. Renato had no idea what he was getting into… Se chogas com o fogo, ti vais a queimar! If you play with fire, you will get burned… especially gay fire. Too bad Renato didn’t understand this beforehand. CORAGEM RENATO!! VAIS A SAIR DI ESTA ARMADILHA!!
Soupy
I did not know that Portuguese gay hustlers were so psychotic that they would murder and mutilate.
Or that so many disgusting portuguese men would sympathize with a gay psychotic murderer.
DIOGO
@Faro32: YOU FUCKIN DICKHEAD, NOBODY IS GAY HERE, ONLY U WITH YOUR STUPID INSECURE HOMOPHOBIC COMENTS, JUST PROVES THAT YOU ARE AN IN THE CLOSET FAG, THE POINT IS HE KILLED SOMEONE, SO LOCK HIM UP, YOU ARE PROTECTING A FAG (RENATO.) YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY PORTUGUESE AS YOU HAVE NO BRAIN, AND A VERY CONFUSED MIND WHEN IT COMES TO VALUES AND MORALITY!!
GET FUCKED!
DIOGO
THE FACT THAT THERE IS SOME PORTUGUESE PEOPLE DEFENDING RENATO HERE, JUST REFLECTS OUR LACK OF JUSTICE IN OUR OWN COUNTRY, PEOPLE IN PORTUGAL COMPLAIN ABOUT THE WAY THINGS ARE BUT NOT ONCE LOOK AT THEMSELVES IN THE MIRROR. I AM VERY ASHAMED OF BEING PORTUGUESE EVEN THOUGH I LOVE MY COUNTRY, BUT IT IS OBVIOUS WE HAVE DISTORTED VALUES, ALSO A LOT OF SCUMBAGS HAVE ENTERED OUR COUNTRY AND PISSED ON THE PORTUGUESE. i SAY BACK 2 BASICS AND LET THAT ASSHOLE RENATO ROT IN JAIL!
TUGA_USA
@Faro32: @Porto27: You’re an idiot!!!! sorry to say but the fact that he had been traveling with Castro for over 3 months, his career was advancing, and the fact that everyone that knew them both knew they were dating is case enough to say they were both gay.. The fact that his parents couldn’t bare the fact that their little “golden good boy” was gay was enough to set this gold digger of a model off. He could of just walked away if he wasnt’ gay, he could of just said i’m done.. NO, HE TORTURED THE GUY FOR OVER AN HOUR, THEN PROCEED TO CASTRATE HIM!!!! HE’S GUILTY AND NO ONE MADE HIM DO IT.. HOPE HE ROTS IN JAIL.. By the way, I’m portuguese too, and think this idiot model deserves as much punishment as the state of NY can give him….
Namelez
@TUGA_USA: I completely agree.. I’m also portuguese and I can’t believe these comments. It’s sad but it’s actually what you hear in Portugal about the case, in fact a new book about the history came out with the title “Renato Seabra, a queda de um anjo” (Renato Seabra, the fall of an angel). The reactions would be VERY different if it were a straight couple, Portugal is filled with homophobic insecure people. This makes me ashamed to call myself portuguese!
