When it comes to digging himself into a deeper hole, Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida has proven himself exceptional. In fact, it might be the thing he does best. Second only, perhaps, to racking up drunk driving arrests.
On Wednesday, he got into a shrill screaming match with Democratic Rep. Cedric Richmond of Louisiana during a House Judiciary Committee meeting.
Gaetz, who is white, shouted at Richmond, who is Black, as Richmond was speaking about the lack of attention Republicans, in general, give to non-white citizens, particularly Black men.
“Who in the hell do you think you are?” Gaetz shrieked over Richmond while waving his hands angrily in the air.

After people took issue with his behavior for a number of reasons, the main one being that he tried to silence a Black man for talking about racism, the 38-year-old bachelor took to Twitter to claim he has a 19-year-old “son” named Nestor, who happens to be Cuban, which somehow proves he’s not racist. Or something.
For all those wondering, this is my son Nestor. We share no blood but he is my life. He came from Cuba (legally, of course) six years ago and lives with me in Florida.

After that, Gaetz paraded Nestor on Tucker Carlson‘s Fox News show, where he said, “Nestor is the light of my life. I couldn’t imagine loving him any more if he was my own flesh and blood. I have raised him for the last six years, and he is just the most remarkable young man.”
Later in the interview, Gaetz really laid on thick when he said:
For the sake of Nestor and my story, we’re a proud, happy family and we love each other very much, and Nestor’s on his way off to college in the fall, and I just couldn’t be happier and prouder of the young man he’s become, and the fact that he’s embracing these American values, that everyone should be treated fairly and equally.
OK, just to be clear, parading around a person of color as a token on national television in an effort to “prove” that you’re not racist after behaving in a racist manner is the definition of racism.
Gaetz’s sudden obsession with this teenage Cuban boy who he calls his “son” and claims to “love very much” led to rumors that he’s gay, prompting some people to wish him a “Happy Pride!” on Twitter.
This morning, Gaetz responded by denying the reports about his sexuality. Then he called people “mean.”
“I’ve honestly never understood this gay shaming smear,” he says. “Are you saying being gay is something to be ashamed of? I’m not gay, but I don’t think it would be if I were. How do gay people feel when a straight person is accused of being gay as some sort of dig? The New Woke is mean.”

He didn’t adopt him, he doesn’t appear to have been fostering him, and if he was a close adult friend who shaped the young man’s life and considers him a son, why didn’t he mention him before? It’s interesting that the brother of a girl Gaetz had dated is being raised by someone and was not adopted by him. Is that standard practice in Florida or anywhere else in the US? Why wasn’t he adopted? How was he enrolled in school all these years? Who sponsored him to come to the US? Who is his legal guardian? These are only a few questions that should be asked because I know if the kid had been living with a single gay person Social Services would have been all over it. Florida would never allow him to stay in a home with a gay person. Why is Gaetz getting special treatment?

Some people serve as Big Brothers. They consider a kid whose life they help shape as a little brother or a son or daughter, etc. Usually they mention those kids in advance of spring them on everyone, including the media. If a little brother or “son” served as a person’s Congressional page, they would usually say this publicly, wouldn’t they? This is what I don’t get. Why did Gaetz hide this about Nestor until after his fragile blowup at Congressman Richmond?
Moreover, yes, there are deadbeat parents, but most I’ve ever met share that they have a kid or children, especially if they are raising them. Even the foster parents I know mention their children proudly. They show you pictures. They talk about what their kids are going through. LGBTQ parents I know who have adopted children are so proud of them. Members of Congress, especially Republicans, love to announce their kids. Gaetz claimed the kid had no parents, a lie, his parents are alive. He also claimed he adopted the 12 year old. A lie.
And most damning, when ever other politician in DC has time for wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends, and even adultery in some cases. Gaetz, who hasn’t sponsored many bills claims he’s “Too busy to date”.
Child protective services needs to look into him.

Maybe I’m just old and not paying attention, but when was the last time you heard a “parent” or a “father figure” make a statement like, “…we love each other very much”? In normal times, you’d hear, “I love my son very much”, which, in fairness, Gaetz also said, but this other statement sticks in my craw for reasons I can’t really define except to say that it sounds like a slip of the tongue on Gaetz’ part — closer to the truth than, “I love my son very much.”
Oh, and six years ago you “acquired” your “son”, “legally, of course”, Matt? I guess Obama opening Cuba had positive and negative effects.

I’ll need more information before I can make any judgment on Matt Gaetz, but it is interesting that he was the only opposing vote on the anti-trafficking bill. I also remember him as the only Republican in Congress who stood up for Katie Hill when she was ousted for an improper relationship with a campaign aide.

You don’t need to raise a male who’s already old enough to be an adult on their own, what a lot of hogwash! I do think it is disappointing that this story is being taken in the direction that is a bit of a stretch and accusatory. There is more information on their situation which is readily accessible online. The boy’s family moved to Florida legally, the boys mother died of cancer, his sister was Gaetz’s girlfriend they lived together and that lead to Nestor living with them and not his biological father. When he split up with the sister, Nestor moves back in with his biological father and remained there until he is 18 and then he moves back in with Gaetz. I think it is fair enough if Nestor felt a strong bond to Gaetz as a father figure and that Gaetz has then supported him again. For me it feels like Matt did the decent thing in supporting his girlfriend’s brother during the time they were together. Taking him in again should not lead people to think there was something wrong with their relationship in any way other than Gaetz seeing him as like a son.
Having said all that we now get to where this becomes problematic for Gaetz. Based on the above he then goes on to exploit this relationship as justifying the argument he has with Richmond. There is no comparison to being the parent of child, whether biological or not to what Gaetz’s relationship with Nestor is. The fact that Gaetz exploited this relationship has in turn then lead to the speculation above here and in other places about the nature of this relationship and that seems less than a fatherly thing to do just as Nestor is about to go off to college. I also think it has been a bit naive of Gaetz to not think people would look back at how he has positioned this relationship in the past. The identifying of Nestor as a Student and a House page (House Page being a role in the state capital house in Tallahassee that Nestor undertook as a high school student) is easily discoverable online and leads to a charge possibly of nepotism if he did consider Nestor as to be like a son, which is hardly surprising when you look at the extent of that happening in the White House.
For me there is nothing here from an LGBTQ standpoint other than noting his track record on voting and that people are missing the issue which is about race. The whole insinuation that comes through in the article and the comments is rather disappointing and feels like people are looking for something more scandalous than is probably there.
I have no skin in this game from a political perspective here as I am not American, it is just an alternative view on the story based on reading more than one article on this subject.

I am deeply disturbed by the content published by this site which proudly tags itself “No agenda except gay”. Clearly that is lie. Every second story is pushing an anti Republican anti Trump agenda. However the most disturbing content is by Graham Gremore who seems obsessed with publishing politically unnacceptable articles that try to “out” Matt Gaetz as gay, insinuate he’s gay and a murderer or here that he’s a gay pedophile.
Graham Gremore is clearly a sick individual and I don’t even understand why he is allowed to write these stories, the are so anti gay in that they revive themes from the 1980’s and 1990’s that try to embarrass and shame people over perceived “gayness”. Gremore just took that to the next level with this piece of garbage. Insinuating Gaetz is both in the closet gay and involved in an inappropriate relationship with his son is beyond the pale. It plays into every sick trope about gay parents and pedophilia. I cannot believe this article is even on this site.
If this site doesn’t remove Gremore and remove the article then it is clearly just a sham site using “gay” cover to push leftwing political agendas.

Granted, I was suspicions at first, but, I would never accuse anyone until all the facts were in. Many judged, the accusations started, & then the theories gained stream. Yeah his record sucks but he & Nestor are not the only ones involved here. Take it to the Ballot box.
