RNC Committeeman Thinks Russia’s Antigay Law Is “Common Sense”

Notoriously antigay RNC Committeeman and former Queerty “Douche Of The Week” Dave Agema is once again hating on the gays on his personal Facebook page.

Eagle-eyed Queerty readers will remember that in early March of 2013, Agema was caught posting links to ridiculously anti-gay material on his Facebook page. This time, he’s siding with Russia.

Two sources sent a screenshot of Agema’s comments regarding a post on the Illinois Family Institute’s website on Russia’s anti-gay law on Facebook to the Washington Blade. The Illiniois Family Institute (basically an antigay organization dedicated to “defending” the institution of marriage by working overtime to keep gays out of it) thinks that Russia’s antigay laws are just fine.  In the words of “cultural analyst” Laurie Higgins:

Hardly sounds unreasonable to fine adults $150 for trying to inculcate other people’s children with their subjective beliefs about sexual morality, but nothing angers homosexual activists quite like being denied access to the hearts and minds of other people’s minor children.

In Agema’s Facebook posting of the article, he remarks that Russia’s antigay law is “common sense.”

So what we have here is a member of the Republican National Committee who is tacitly agreeing with the characterization of LGBT people as pedophiles, aligning with the homophobic rhetoric and law of another country that has already been blasted by President Obama, and announcing said agreement on a public forum.

Not surprisingly, some Republicans are pissed, particularly Republican precinct delegate Dennis Lenox, who saw the post on Facebook and provided it to the Blade. “This is outrageous that a leader of the National Republican Party, my political party, is siding with an autocratic regime that believes in arresting political opponents, censoring reporters, jailing dissidents and eliminating free speech,” he said.

This is only the latest example of outrageous behavior from Agema, though the RNC has thus far refused to denounce any of it. Agema of course hasn’t given a comment on the matter, so we’ll all have to wait with bated breath for the next bit of brilliance to come from his Facebook page.
