That’s what RNC chairman Michael Steele is doing with the war he engaged with Rush Limbaugh, which had some in the GOP calling for Steele’s head. But it wasn’t a dick swinging match with Limbaugh, claims Steele; it was a means of checking out “the landscape.” He just wanted to see which Republicans would scream their heads off the loudest, and which would fall in line. So his apology to Limbaugh — who carries more weight among conservatives than Steele could ever hope to — was, uh, also part of that strategy. We’re assuming.
