Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the mastermind (if that’s what you want to call it) behind the Manti Te’o dead girlfriend hoax, sat down with Dr. Phil McGraw and explained that he did it all in the name of love. A (questionably?) gay love.
The Today show reports:
“Here we have a young man that fell deeply, romantically in love,’’ McGraw told NBC’s Mike Taibbi in a segment that aired on Today Wednesday. “I asked him straight up, ‘Was this a romantic relationship with you?’ And he says yes. I said, ‘Are you then therefore gay?’ And he said, ‘When you put it that way, yes.’ And then he caught himself and said, ‘I am confused.’’’
Aren’t we all? Well, all of us except maybe Manti Te’o. For a change.
McGraw’s two-part interview with Tuiasosopo may shine some light on the case when it airs on Thursday and Friday.
How about we take this to the next level?

No shit Sherlock.
There is still more to this story. The cover up continues.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
HUNGRY for love, it would appear.

This story has more twists and turns than Lombard Street in San Francisco. I’m not taking what any of these characters say at face value.

Check this guys bank account. Sounds like he is the same as the guy in the John Edwards campaign who at first claimed to be the father of Rielle Hunter’s baby.
Again, This seems to be a situation of….
Guy raised in strict Mormon / Samoan family.
People ask Why don’t you have a girlfriend?
He says “Oh I do, she doesn’t live here”
A few months or a year later
Why hasn’t your girlfriend come out to visit?
Oh…uh…..she’s sick.
A few months or a year later.
Why haven’t you gone to visit your girlfriend.
Um…uh…she’s dead.
hamoboy
But guys, haven’t you heard? He’s FAAAAAR from gay!
mz.sam
Oh really?? No confusion here when lonely, closeted Mormon dreams of getting laid by football jock boy.

After watching the Katie Couric interview with Manti (yes…I watched the entire thing – DON’T JUDGE ME!!!) I’ve come to believe that there is no way in hell he didn’t know that his “girlfriend” wasn’t really a guy. When he thought Lennay was in hospital IN A COMA he didn’t think to go and visit her?!?! Come on! I blame their f#cked up religious beliefs. Manti belongs to the cult of Mormonism and Ronaiah is allegedly a “devout evangelical.” There’s no way they would have EVER been able to be open and honest about who they were. I will not be watching Dr. Phil’s interviews with “Lennay,” but I’m sure I’ll be able to find clips online. Can’t wait!!

@hamoboy: Did you see the auto-tuned version of Manti’s interview with Katie Couric? Do a search for: Why Why Manti? It’s amazing.

@GG: Poor Ronaiah was so caught up in his own romantic fantasy, he forgot to check out Manti’s postings on Grindr.

I don’t care if Manti (who I never heard of before the gossip-sphere started obsessing about it) fucks his brother. Consenting adults should be able to do as they please. But what is relevant here has been briefly touched on in previous comments. These two guys were DRIVEN to bizarre behavior and lies because of their mythical beliefs in some white-robed guy with a beard, sitting in the sky, passing judgment and condemning people to a fiery pit. Pitiful.

Well, maybe he’s in love with masculinity. I’ve known tons of men who have been in love with masculinity without it going further than that. Masculinity is an adorable trait. It doesn’t mean you want to have intercourse with it.
dab822
pretty clear the lesser adored… worshiped the greater. both are screwed up by culture and religion….all useless tradition
hamoboy
@Brian: “In love with masculinity”? What does that even mean? How can you be in love with someone’s “masculinity” and not want to fuck it? I’m pretty sure masculinity itself is pretty sexual… Maybe I’m missing something?
@dab822: Trust me, us Samoans know how to get freaky, and we know how to own up to it (or cover it up) without elaborate schemes of dead girlfriends. That’s all on them, not their culture.
Aidan8
@Brian: In love with masculinity?? Adorable trait?? What the f*ck are you talking about?
LadyL
@Brian: If by “in love with” you mean tons of men are obsessed with the cult of masculinity, well, duh.

It is so sad that we as a society are so very hung up on wanting to know merely about another’s sexuality. Being so focused on this one thing we fail miserably at examining the whole person him or her self. It’s like we can’t get past square one. There is far more to a person than this one small aspect. If he is gay, so what? If he is not, so what again. In any group or minority of people, you will always have from the very best to the very worst of individuals. Instead, the real question should be about the heart and soul of that individual.

_____________-
That is basically the same argument that the bigots used, just change a few words.
Why talk about gays, why realize that they exist? Why is that aspect important? Gee, because it’s the aspect that is illegal in many states or people respond to with bigotry.

@Cam: Bless you for stating the obvious. Sometimes the assimilationists really get on my nerves.
