Speaking of gay California lawmakers, State Sen. Roy Ashburn today pleaded no contest to DUI charges and will serve 48 hours in a county jail, pay $2,000 in fines and fees, receive three years of probation, attend a DUI offender program, and have his license suspended for 30 days. Ugh. Taking the bus to the gay bars is tragic.

that’s a lightweight “I have a lawyer, not a public defender” sentence here in CA. Pretty standard here in CA if you have $$$ and are white.

Really? Jail time for a first offence DUI? CA. has tougher traffic enforcement than some other places obviously!

48 hours, picking up garbage in the park for 30 days of community service, and a lot more money than 2 grand is the norm. I did social work in a rehab, and the “tough love” laws became the norm when Pete Wilson was the Governer.
