Rudy Giuliani may have once presided over New York – one of the gayest cities ever – but he’s got no love for gay love. The 63-year old Republican presidential contender issued a statement opposing New Hampshire’s freshly passed civil unions. Or, rather, a spokesperson issued a statement:
Mayor Giuliani believes marriage is between one man and one woman. Domestic partnerships are the appropriate way to ensure that people are treated fairly. In this specific case the law states same sex civil unions are the equivalent of marriage and recognizes same sex unions from outside states. This goes too far and Mayor Giuliani does not support it.
The news comes as a bit of a shocker considering Rudy once spoke out in support of gay rights – a position that left him on shaky ground with the GOP. Giuliani’s ideological reversal shows the ugly, unjust reality of political maneuvering.

Yeah thats Rudy. Once a scumbag. Always a sumbag
I also fiind him taking a stand on ANY marriage issue Hetro or Homo ironic considering the man has 2 failed marriages and had a Mistress while married to Donna Hanover.
Dudes a douche pure and simple and is now flipping to the Hard Right Republican side to garner votes.
Hopefully the Dems will find some cajones in this election and fight fire with fire and rake the myck up on Rudy. Lord knows theres enough on him!

ack! i doubt if anyone will agree with me, but I think this MIGHT be a “Nixon in China” situation. I suspect that, once in office, he’ll reverse himself and support gay rights. Not that I’d vote for the fascist, but among GOP contenders, he’s still the best of a bad lot.

Rudy’s still getting my vote. He’s no better than the Dems stumping to get the ultraliberal Hollywood left. You do what you have to do to get elected and then you do what you want when you’ve got the job. Even our current president didn’t do all he said he would. I mean, abortion is still legal isn’t it? And he’s an idiot, but knew how to do it.
Plus, what his website says is the most important thing, no matter what you call it:
“But he believes in equal rights under law for all Americans.”
It’s all about equal rights, people. Plus, I’d take Rudy in a fight against the Islamofascists anyday over any of the other contenders (with the exception of maybe Hillary, she’s one tough broad).

Kamasutra,
You could always vote for Bill Richardson. He believed in gay rights, even transgender rights, when it was not popular to do so. And yet, the NRA still supports him. His stances crosses party lines, but not just to garner votes like McCain or Guiliani.
As for equal rights, Guiliani stated that he was against civil unions because they are the ‘equivalent’ to marriage. He is not for equal rights.

Sorry, Kamasutra Jones. You do what you have to do to get the job and then you do what you have to do to keep it for the next election. And then you do what you have to do to make sure your party gets the next election. And on and on and on.
brian
Dam. He just lost my vote. I guess I wont be voting for President candidate for 2008
amissio
Bastard! Of all the rep candidates, he was the one that I allowed myself not to utterly despise. Well, he’s ruined that.
Kamasutra Jones
John, You’ve forgotten one thing. The power of the vote. If the person gets in and doesn’t do a good job, it’s up to the voters to elect someone else. Politicking aside, the People have forgotten who has the REAL power in politics.
