Madonna is not a singer. She’s a formula.

@michael mellor: Yes, but she invented that formula, and that formula made her a lot of money, and she is still going strong. Personally, I don’t like her voice at all, and almost all of her songs would be much better if they were sung by someone else (except for those songs that just sucked), but she sold her image quite well, and pop is all about image.

Meanwhile, people are googling Rufus Wainwright to figure out who the hell he is.

@QJ201: Because, of course, being known has a direct correlation with talent and/or valid opinions.

Clearly, more popular = better than.

I had to look that video from Les Miserables up. It didn’t sound that bad, until Russel Crowe entered the stage.

i get the britney thing and not knowing the words. i’m sure all her songs are fabricated and she is surprised to hear she sang another song

@gskorich: Ha – so true! I think the studio spent one long day back in 2000 recording a wasted Britney “singing” a bunch of random words, moans and sighs and have been manipulating those same sounds ever since. But I must admit, I’m a Slave 4 U is truly sleazy/brilliant.

I’ll never understand the mainstream gay fascination with these attention-seeking women.

@tdx3fan: I totally disagree. Madonna has one of the best voices in pop music. No, she can’t shatter concrete at 20 paces like a Whitney or a Celine, but that really is no bad thing. She doesn’t need to scale octaves for songs like Hung Up, Into The Groove, Like A Prayer, Vogue, La Isla Bonita and yet each one of those songs is classic in its own right. Madonna’s voice is pure and clear and has a universal appeal that, rightly, has made her the most successful female pop star of all time.

But for anyone who is interested in hearing Madonna do a great live vocal, search ‘Sooner or Later/Madonna/Oscars 1991’ on Youtube. Not only does she sing well but, she exudes the kind of charisma and star quality that is so lacking in the celebrity world. She really is the last of the Hollywood greats and there will never be another one like her. You can appreciate her now, or when she’s dead but, either way, the woman is a peerless pop culture legend.

One of the most horrifying things I’ve ever heard was Rufus Wainright ‘doing’ ‘Judy Garland at the Carnegie Hall’. To say he butchered her songs is to be very generous indeed.

Madonna used to be a brilliant artist until 2008.Now she is unstable and pathetic.

@spencer87: Unstable? In what way? Whitney and Michael are dead and Mariah and Britney had a breakdowns. So many famous people go off the rails, turning to booze and drugs. Madonna, one of the most famous stars of all time has more then kept it together, not only maintaining a successful career, but also raising 4 seemingly happy and bright children. That doesn’t seem very ‘unstable and pathetic’ to me.

Sad that he is so desperate to sell a few albums that he has to talk shit about the Queen of Pop because that is the only way he will get any press. Since not one cares about his music otherwise. What a loser.

@seaguy: Exactly. Madonna’s releasing a new album later in the year and I’m pretty certain she won’t be sitting there slagging off Rufus Wainright or any other artist, in order to promote it.
