Look, it’d be easy to tear Mary Cheney apart for her incredibly misinformed comments comparing men who do drag to white people doing black face.
Like, too easy.
Well the ever classy RuPaul decided to put together a little herstory lesson for Ms. Thing, and shows how the high road is walkable in high heels.
OK, it’s also a cleverly designed marketing promo for season seven, but can you blame her?
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Oh, Mary! We hope you see this.
DarkZephyr
Love it! PLUS Mary provided them a way to get some more publicity. I adore this show and Mary Cheney isn’t gonna change that.
Clark35
Ru Paul is not a class act, and drag stopped being relevant in the early 70s.
DarkZephyr
@Clark35: OK Parker Molloy.

@DarkZephyr: HAHAHAHA!

Mary Cheney mocks gay/lesbian activists by spreading her buttcheeks for anti-gay conservatives and then rushing to marry her wife on the backs of liberal efforts.
Cheney claims drag queens mock women. Maybe it’s time for a drag queen to mock uppity selfish dykes like her.
OzJosh
RuPaul’s “response” in no way addresses Mary Cheney’s essential criticism – which, by the way, is hardly original. It’s a view advanced by many feminists, and shared by many gay men. You can disagree with Cheney, but what she said was hardly new or extreme or even that controversial. And pretending that RuPaul being sassy and defiant is some kind of response is just dumb.
tricky ricky
there’s only one thing that needs to be said to explain mary cheney: SHE’S DICK CHENEY’S DAUGHTER.

@SteveDenver: I remember when she was out trying to peddle some book she wrote when darth cheney was still in office. they did up her hair and stuffed her into a fake chanel suit. she made max klinger look dainty.
petensfo
RuPaul’s response was lame & self-serving. Here’s a much, MUCH better response:

She really missed a great opportunity.
DarkZephyr
@OzJosh: Mary Cheney clearly knows NOTHING about what drag is really about and the “sassy response” did address that. And whatever “many gay men” agree with her are sell-outs just like she is who have turned their backs on their brothers. And don’t call that attitude “feminist”.
DarkZephyr
@petensfo: THAT is an excellent video, thanks for sharing it!
DarkZephyr
@petensfo: BTW I don’t think that the video was actually put together by RuPaul. World of Wonder did it. She made that collection of clips for the Reunion episode of Drag Race season 6. That being said, I STILL think it got the point across AND there is nothing wrong wit then plugging their show at the end in my opinion.
kouros
@OzJosh: Exactly! Queerty attached what they thought was a topical hook for the RuPaul vid. Stupid.

The flag on the opening sequence only has 48 stars.
jason smeds
Oh, please, does anyone really think that RuPaul is in it for anything other than the money?
NoCagada
@jason smeds: Considering that it’s how he makes a living, that was about as much of a DORK comment as everything else you post.
NoCagada
@Clark35: If it’s irrelevant, why are we, and you, talking about it?
Kangol
@petensfo: Excellent video, Petensfo! I love RuPaul but he puts her to shame with his thoughtful, thorough explanation of the difference between drag and blackface.
Mary Homophobe Cheney also seems to be ignorant of the long history of drag, of male drag by women, and of the complexities of gender performance. She’s still one of the worst!
