Earlier this month, we told you about Georges LeBar, RuPaul’s on-again, off-again partner who lives on a ranch in Wyoming.
They’ve been seeing each other for 23 years.

Well, turns out they tied the knot earlier this year — though Ru is only spilling the beans now.
Talking to Ross Matthews, RuPaul confessed, “I don’t think I’ve said this… I’ve never said this on television before: we are married.”
“I met him on the dance floor at the Limelight in 1994 on his birthday. So we got married on his birthday on the anniversary of when we met… this year.”
You can hear the whole story here:

Congratulations to the couple!
I can’t hear “Limelight” without thinking of Sharon Needles impression of Michelle Visage talking about her and Ru when they were younger.
Good Times.

“Her”? RuPaul is a man who does drag. Drag RuPaul did not marry, the real RuPaul did.
CarrieV
RuPaul himself has long said he merrily goes by ‘him’ OR ‘her’.

Thank you, Ru is a drag queen NOT a transexual…. who writes those headlines?
DarkZephyr
Ru goes by he or she. Both are acceptable for Ru. There’s a reality check for you.

I thought it was her and she when they’re in drag. I would be insulted if I were Ru….ah, Limelight. I used to go to the one in Atlanta but he might mean the one in NY.
DarkZephyr
Ru goes by “him” or “her” when out of drag, and usually “her” when in.

HIM!! Not HER!!
DarkZephyr
HIM!! or HER!! Both are ACCEPTABLE!!!

Ru Paul is ultra-gay and of a generation which uses female pronouns mainly when being bitchy or self-deprecating – heck, she only stopped using the “T-word” because the Transgestapo went after her.
I’ve used the female pronouns purposely in the above sentence as an example. (If Queerty’s blog had italics, I’d have used them for emphasis.) In the headline, the “her” only creates confusion.

Condragulations Ru! It’s a crime we didn’t get to see what you wore to the altar.

Ru Paul….I am so happy for you and George. And you are so correct about you doing it for tax purposes. GRIN! HEY! So many of the straight folks just don’t get it. Marriage is to protect our partners with insurances, 401Ks, hospital visitations, property, bank accounts and such. It is not so we can walk down an aisle with a bouquet of flowers. Anyone who thinks that is a total MORON. I thought I would never see it legal in my lifetime, as I am now 71. Yeah. My partner, Dan and I were going to get married, but we had to wait until it was legal in Georgia, which was going to take a Supreme Court decision. Well, bless my soul, it happened in June of 2015. Unfortunately, on May 20, 2014, I went into Dan’s room to get him for breakfast and found him. He had had a heart attack during the night and was gone. Dan was 13 years younger than me. I was the one who was supposed to go first. But I have over 16 years of memories that help me smile once in a while.

Those are very wise words Sir. Too many folks get married for all the wrong reasons.
Keep smiling!

I think we gay men embody both the masculine and feminine traits; I see no problem for anyone using “her” to describe me; i’d be happy that my personality has both shades.

It’ so interesting how people take an old joke in his autobiography (“You can call me he. You can call me she. You can call me Regis and Kathie Lee; I don’t care! Just as long as you call me.””) and make it declarative.
CarlIsle
Call me old fashioned, but it’s kind of stupid to refer to RuPaul as “she” when he’s not in drag.
