Our favorite big-eared beauty — Looking’s Russell Tovey — is set to appear in a new BBC drama called Banished about a group of convicts who’ve been exiled to Australia in the 18th century.
The BBC describes the series as exploring “the lives, loves, relationships and battle for survival of a group of convicts, the soldiers who guard them and the men who govern them in the early days of this settlement,” and is helmed by Jimmy McGovern, the creator of BBC series Cracker, The Lakes and Accused.
Tovey, who also has a cameo in the upcoming Muppets Most Wanted, will play a convict forging bonds with fellow cons played by MyAnna Buring (Downton Abbey) and Julian Rhind-Tutt (Green Wing).
We certainly wouldn’t mind a little on-screen rough and tumble between Russell and Julian.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Filming begins in April on location in Australia, with the drama reaching BBC2 in early 2015.

Wow, Russell is always working. It’s nice to see an openly gay actor with such a vibrant career.
Besides all of that, I loved Russell on “Looking,” and I wish him and his dog, Rocky, the best.

@NG22:
I agree, people like Tovey, Matt Bomer, Neil Patrick Harris, and Zachary Quinto are changing the way we see leading men (on TV anyway) in hollywood. They can be gay and they can be successful.

First enjoyed his acting abilities . . . and his lovely appearance . . . in “Being Human” (the original UK version).

I get that he is coming to American TV with Looking but he looks a bit harder now that he has been going the gym rat route. He looked more adorable before he started hitting the protein powder.
