Russia’s Gays Promise Pride, Silence

Russian gays have some balls!

Despite Moscow mayor Yury Luzkhov’s ban on gay May Day events, activist Nikolay Alexeyev promises that the show will go on:

There is no doubt we will win in this confrontation with the Moscow government; it is just a question of time. The ban on our peaceful actions is illegal, and courts will agree with us.

There will be a gay pride parade in the city in May, no matter what city authorities may say. This is our constitutional right and we intend to use it.

In addition to marching in a gay pride event, activists also announced this weekend that they’re adopting another Western tradition: the Day of Silence, which aims to end homophobic violence and verbal abuse.
