A new study published in the Achieves of Sexual Behavior finds that lonely men are significantly more likely to engage in bareback sex.
About 500 Chinese men participated in the study. Researchers hoped to gain a better understanding of the relationship between mental health and HIV infection among gay and bisexual men.
They observed that 26.8 and 35.5% reported moderate-to-severe symptoms of depression, including feeling “hopeless for the future” of experiencing extreme loneliness.
In addition to that, researchers learned that men who reported feeling lonely were 66% more likely to have engaged in condomless receptive anal intercourse in the past six months.

“HIV prevention efforts should address the mental health needs of Chinese MSM such as providing safe environments for social support and role models,” researchers concluded.
A 2014 study by Gay Times found that that gay and bi men were significantly more likely to engage in bareback sex after using drugs or while drunk. In that study, 30% of respondents admitted that taking drugs had led them to have bareback sex, and 54% admitted to having bareback sex while drunk.

I find this to be true, on my part, but I have not acted upon the impulse.
I am too chickenshit, and have watched too many of my friends die from this dreadful disease.
Still, the urge to have unprotected sex, keeps calling out to me. Being alone and lonely are bitter pills, trust me.

If you have a primary care provider, ask them about PrEP. You can still engage in safer sex, but if the “urge” comes up, you have another barrier. Also, please talk to your sexual partners BEFORE you engage in sex about their status, and what they are doing to prevent transmission of any diseases.
I have had lovers who are negative and positive, before and after going on PrEP. Communication is key.

A little odd. It’s a very specific target. At best, the conclusion could be that sad, lonely Chinese men are likely to engage in that behavior. It needs a variety of races. It also doesn’t say if these Chinese men are out, if they’re Chinese-American (Chinese but raised in America and American culture), immigrants, r a number of other factors.
Tbh, a study of that size is only useful for the agenda of an article.
