We’ll have to wait another two weeks before one of the remaining three RuPaul’s Drag Race queens is officially crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar, but one of Ru’s hopefuls is already getting a leg-up on her post-show career.
According to Playbill, current frontrunner and crowd favorite Jinkx Monsoon will return to the stage as Velma Von Tussle in the 5th Avenue Theatre’s current production of Hairspray in Seatlle, June 20-23. This will be Jerrick Hoffer’s (aka Jinkx) second stint with the Seattle-based production company—he previously appeared as Angel in Rent.
Jinkx caught the eyes of the show’s producers after delivering the most incredible performance as Little Edie Beale of Grey Gardens fame, a woman the rest of the cast didn’t know. Shame!
In this week’s episode, Jinkx revealed her top post-Race priority was returning to the Broadway stage in a leading role. Velma Von Tussle may not be the lead she was hoping for, but that fancy crown and $100,000 prize could work wonders for her future Broadway career.
If her performance in Hairspray is HALF as good as this jaw-dropping lip sync, we’re sold!

Love Jinkx! That was a great lip sync. It totally destroyed Detox.

The look on Roxxy’s face after Ru’s pronouncement is priceless.

How can there by ANY question? It’s ALL Jinkx

Hedwig should finally get a Broadway run with Jinks!

I had the pleasure of seeing Jinkx in the Seattle production of Hedwig a couple months ago.

“In this week’s episode, Jinkx revealed her top post-Race priority was returning to the Broadway stage in a leading role. Velma Von Tussle may not be the lead she was hoping for”
COMPLETELY WRONG AND SHADY. WHY? IT’S NOT EVEN IN THE QUEERTY RECAP YOU LINKED AS YOUR SOURCE.
That’s not what she said. Jinkx was never on the Broadway stage so claiming she said “return to Broadway” and suggesting that the role is lesser than she’d want is shady wordsmithing.
She has always said her DREAM is to play leading conventional womens’ roles and get to Broadway, then win a Tony as the first dragstress to do so.
FURTHERMORE, they are under contract to World of Wonder for a year so it cannot be a “TOP PRIORITY” to run back to Broadway, especially when you’ve never been there before anyway. sigh.
Lastly, just FYI, she is selling out OFF Broadway shows with her The Vaudevillians act at the Beechman in July, where they keep adding more and more dates for July.
And where Detox,Vicky and Willam weren’t able to sell out even ONE show at that venue in May for a month.

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE JINKX!
