Kevin McHale has traded in the music stand for a bench press. The former Glee star opened up about his fitness journey to Us, explaining how he went from cute boy-next-door to cute & ripped boy-next-door in 12 weeks.
“I had been working through an intestine and digestion issue that was eluding diagnosis and that really took a toll on me,” he said. “I was constantly in pain. I had tried so many different elimination diets—nothing was working. It got to the point where I was already feeling miserable because of the intestinal issues, plus the self-added guilt of not getting myself to the gym or eating as healthy as possible. It was a recipe for disaster.”
That’s when the out 30-year-old performer enlisted some help; he signed up with Ultimate Performance, a training studio in L.A.

To round out those intense workouts, McHale also adopted a targeted diet of complex carbs, healthy fats, vegetables, and protein.
“I became obsessed with logging my food,” he said. “I’d also be rating my energy, sleep, and digestion each day. Knowing if I had a proper night’s sleep would directly correlate with how I was training and eating obviously, but when you track it for three months you can see trends and patterns—I loved it.”

Am a Certified Personal Trainer (meaning I actually went to a school. Rather than paying $299 for an online certificate). I like that Kevin came out and hate to throw shade his way but there is NO WAY one gets that ripped in 12 weeks without the aid of steroids and other chemical enhancements……..

Photo shop perhaps was his aid, or maybe he was pushing out his stomach in the first pic or hardening his abs in the second. Either way, he looks good. His pretty boy bf was probably a good incentive.

If you go through his instagram he’s always had a decent body. He wasn’t scrawny, he wasn’t even skinnyfat. He was and remains a healthy weight, but now he’s started lifting.
12 weeks is actually a very reasonable timeline to get visibly bigger arms and pecs if you’re eating right and doing compound lifts. Nothing about his body is unrealistic or unattainable.

I admire his dedication and commitment, and all of us should try to eat right, exercise, and get enough sleep. But I find the “before” pic MUCH more attractive!

I liked his before picture..but now he has to work at maintaining the new body..as long as he likes the workouts and the food counting its alot ot work .hours every day..hope he dosent get carried away and so pumped up he cant reach his dick to pee.and begins to look like a shell of his former self

Calorie counting is actually super easy now that there are apps that can help you keep track of your intake. I probably spend 5 minutes a day total on My Fitness Pal, and there are others if you don’t like it.
I’ve been going to the gym 3-4 times a week since March doing a beginner’s lifting routine, and I started seeing results inside of 3 months. It’s not that hard, even though I’ve also been working 7 days a week since the end of January. Most people just give up before it becomes a habit and/or before they see the results they wanted. I still don’t know what my ultimate fitness goals are, but that’s alright because, starting out, I really just wanted to get stronger.
My boyfriend likes cuddling with me even more now that I have a bit more visible muscle mass. I’m sure he’d prefer if I stopped asking him to rub my shoulders so much. They have been a lot more tense since I started working out.
