San Francisco is Marriage Central today and even the street artists are out in force for marriage equality. Check out the pretty rockin’ graphics found plastering one SF wall. Full size after the jump.

I see from the NY Times report of the event that:
“Several ardent — and outnumbered — opponents of same-sex marriage also held signs with messages like “Gay = Pervert” and “A Moral Wrong Can’t be a Civil Right.”

Why are none of the gays there holding banners saying things like: “Religious=Fuckwitted Bigot” or “How Can Religion Be Called Moral” etc etc??
Come on guys and gals, go onto the offensive against the religiously afflicted nutjobs.

If you get on the offencive you stoop to their level.
That happened at a pride I was at once. I think it’s much better to present positive messages in the face of bigotry, like the one above. It makes gay people look intelligent, rational and peaceful in their convictions rather than religiously zealous.

@Tallskin – Thanks for the link, I missed that somehow.

I think it’s a question of time and place, myself. Obviously, Pride is a celebration, and to use that event as a platform to attack seems to bring a little too much darkness into the festivities. On the other hand, during a time like the one we’re currently in, when we have a very real fight on our hands, I see no problem with calling a bigot a bigot. I would even encourage it, for those who have the testicular fortitude to stand by their convictions. The mainstream GLBT community needs to stop trying to invalidate the opinions (and feelings) of those of us who are more fervent in our beliefs. We’re the ones who actually get things done, you know, because we’re not trying to make nice with the bigots in the first place. Conciliation is wasted energy the majority of the time. The only reason people think it works is because more of us are trying it.

I was there! It was fun for the most part, everyone was civil, with a few exceptions. We shouted bigot etc. at people who were being really rude, but usually we just chanted some no on 8 slogan a little louder. I was surprised that so many yes on 8 people were there, most of them were from some chinese church or bussed in from a Sacrament Community college. That is some dedication to hate, driving for 2-3 hours to support something that will never affect them.
The deputy attorney was a joke, he was a terrible arguer. He actually said “I don’t know” to a justice at one point. That fierce Lesbian stole the show, she was on fire! kristen something or other?

To all you anti prop8ers in California, best of luck to you! I really hope the court gets this right since 52% of the voters didn’t. Do me a favor, wish us luck in Illinois. The legislature is currently debating civil unions here. Kind of getting excited thinking my partner and I might be able to get uh, civil-unionized someday soon. Peace!

@geoff – Best of luck in Illinois, and I love your phrase civil-unionized
