Jonah Hill changed out of his ugly board shorts and into something more formal to deliver what he believes to be a second “apology” for calling a photographer a “faggot” on a Los Angeles street last weekend.
Hill is continuing to justify his use of the offensive slur by alleging that the paparazzo in question was “antagonizing me” and “calling me names.” He claims he was “genuinely hurt by this,” and decided to immediately repair the situation by yelling the phrase “suck my dick, faggot.”
Hill seems to be (in his mind) genuinely apologetic, though it’s probably because he realizes the damaging effects “faggot” can have on one’s career. It’s obvious by his apology below that he still doesn’t quite understand why what he said was offensive — “I wanted to hurt him” with “the most hurtful word that I could think of” rings like schoolyard bully who’s sorry he got caught.
Of course, the entire situation is turned into a joke by the time he’s done talking. America gets nervous and shifty when people on television are addressing serious matters.
How about we take this to the next level?

I saw the tmz clip, they were hounding him pretty good. And thats only the parts they let us see. Who knows what sort of crap they were saying they didn’t didn’t “air” Ppl say shit when they are mad all the time. I’m not holding it against him.
Ridpathos
Yeah. This story. I don’t really care.
Besides he says it like a million times in “Wolf of Wall Street”. There are some cases when people use the ‘f’ word that we should get angry about. This isn’t one of them.
Nowuvedoneit
He is an actor, so he acted sorry, which is sad. Wish this word policing would go away, it serves no purpose. Those words will still be used. What we can do to is changing peoples minds with discussions and with our presence.
aliengod
Enough apologizing already. It’s just a word. Who cares.
BJ McFrisky
If people are so freaked-out by the word, then they must be on pins and needles waiting for Harvey Fierstein’s apology tour to begin.
The Word Police need to be disbanded.
Tackle
It would be interesting to see if he’s held to the “same” scrutiny, or if his career suffers the same fate as Isaiah Washington, who had a difficult time getting work, even after apologizing numerous times through the yrs,and was still not forgiving by many. But something tells me it’s gonna be different and eaiser for Johah…
Nowuvedoneit
@Tackle: What’s sad is no one is apologizing for bringing to the screen Katherine Heigl. That’s the real tragedy!
Desert Boy
Jonah Hill is a fat, greasy little closet queen. He’s the baby version of another celebrated douche, Alec Baldwin. Just go away, Jonah. Go away.

what a coincidence he has a movie coming out at the same time this unfortunate “event” occurred.

This guy is not a true threat to the gay community in any way. Help me understand something; how is it you guys continue to climb up on your gay pejorative soapbox when this very site was named after a gay pejorative?
queer [kweer]
adjective, queer·er, queer·est.
1. strange or odd from a conventional viewpoint; unusually different; singular.
2. of a questionable nature or character; suspicious; shady.
3. not feeling physically right or well; giddy, faint, or qualmish.
4. mentally unbalanced or deranged. (LOL)
5. Slang: Disparaging and Offensive.
Confused.

@Tackle: I agree it’s going to be easier for Jonah to brush off this bit of stupid he put on display. In my mind the key difference to observe is Isaiah was deliberately using the slur in reference to a gay man, and Jonah is just being a douche.
Many people can be douchebags when cornered, going for the easy shot because they lack creativity and wit, while still not pleasant doesn’t necessarily translate to anti-gay animus or at least that intent. Clearly, using faggot to refer to a gay man, especially if you are not one, does translate to animus and intent.

Don’t lose sleep over this imbroglio, Mr. FOT* Hill. To paraphrase Coco Montrese, we’ve got your back rolls. We still adore you like we adore like all our entitled, egotistical for-press-release-only LGBT allies. We need you because America is dangerously running out of rich, spoiled, obese role models. Getting “hounded” by a paparazzo is PTSD-inducing and it’s not part-and-parcel of your chosen career as a comic foil and sidekick to A listers.

@KDub: Oh there was this whole thing that happened, I don’t, years and years ago, where homos decided that queer was no longer a term we should shun. You know, “We’re here, we’re queer, get over it” or some such thing, Act Up, gender-queer, all that? Any bells going off?
I think we can all look around and find some words that have been embraced by those who it was once used against >.>
hotboyvb81
When angry- if your go to word is faggot- it means it’s right there on the tip of your tongue…if he had just said asshole, everything would be fine- but …..
tham
Oh Jonah, I forgive you.
PRINCE OF SNARKNESS aka DIVKID
The faux-outraged tone and gleeful controversy-trolling of this article(?) is almost as distasteful as the slack jawed spluttering of Shumu’s stunt double
Allen D.
Obviously acting (and badly at that, the dramatic pauses are just too much). Screw him.
masc4masc
he mightve made a bad judgment call but trying to make him out to be anti-gay is beyond stupid. hopefully he wont let this unnecessary witch hunt led by the usual bunch of butthurt queens deter his activism.

I’m guessing he won’t be kissing Channing Tatum’s penis any time soon.

I find it odd that everyone is upset by his use of the other F word but no one is offended by the “Suck my dick” that preceded it. Would it have been less controversial if his remark was “Suck my dick Coc*s**ker?
BrianZ
@Alan down in Florida: Where is the slur in c0cksucker? Sounds like the bell of the ball to me.
Mezaien
Jonah Hill, who is he??.
toberlin
“I wanted to hurt him with the most hurtful word I could think of”… and I knew exactly WHY that was “offensive”!
abuelo
Who is that bloated toad and why would anyone care about him? Seems like there’s enough stupid floating around in the world without snagging on to some more of it for display. My attitude toward bloated toads may be getting exhausted.
Lvng1tor
We get it…you’re sorry you got caught being an ass….ok lets move on to other things. Seriously I’d have more respect if you just said “I f’d up. i said something stupid in the heat of the moment. I’m sorry I offended anyone. I know why it’s offensive and disrespectful to the gay community.” then leave it be…NOT “I’m heartbroken….blah blah blah”
Stromberg
Or maybe the guy got pushed, upset and flustered and said something he regrets so he apologized for it…We can’t say things about people not learning anything from history because we’re being oppressed like other minorities were and then follow the mistakes that at least some of those minorities made. I understand why what he said was offensive and why, but we’re in a transitional, growing period…it will take time for people (including us) to grow out of learned behaviors. At least the man had the presence of mind to go on national television, bring the subject up himself, accept responsibility, say that her doesn’t deserve forgiveness and apologize. We are being so militant that we can’t even accept apologies? We’re making mistakes too. Who of us is going to stand up publicly and apologize for those?
boring
@Mezaien: Either you’re just being weirdly, unreasonably flippant, or you’re a dumb dumb.
Dude’s been nominated for an Oscar. Guy’s a genuine star.
Kenover
I might suck his dick…if I could find it.

The same people crapping on Jonah Hill and his movies are the same people who think Glee is amazing television. Kurt offends me more than anything I’ve ever seen in a Jonah Hill movie. The people bitching about the homophobia in his and Seth Rogen’s movies have never even watched one of them.
Save the ammunition for pieces of garbage like Phil Robertson (who unlike Hill has never come off apologetic for the things he’s said), Mike Huckabee, Michelle Bachmann and the sort.
Perfida Limpin
@Lvng1tor: He’s promoting a movie. He had to act. Not buying it though as I had never liked him. The world’s not as forgiving to plain-looking fat bastards.
Kieran
You think if Jonah Hill had been caught on tape calling a reporter a “kike” or “n*gger” he’d be allowed to do victory laps on the TV talk show circuit to adoring, wildly applauding audiences? No chance. The laws of political correctness would never allow something like that. He’d be banished from the airwaves and put in quarantine.
But Jonah Hill only offended the gays…..so say “sorry” and let’s all laugh, move on and pretend this never happened.
KDub
@BrianZ: You’re basically saying:
1. Hill should’ve used queer instead of faggot.
2. Gay people should strive to be just as hypocritical as other demographics with the “do as I say, not as I do” mentality.
Great advice!
