Dominic Sherwood, currently appearing on the teen drama “Shadowhunters,” has issued an apology after being overheard greeting his friend with a gay slur.
He acknowledges his words were “disgusting and abhorrent.”

Sherwood interrupted co-star Matthew Daddario during a Facebook Live vid, shouting “What’s up, fag?”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
“I think so many problematic phrases go unchallenged and they perpetuate negativity and hate and intolerance,” he says in a new Instagram post, “and today I was part of that and I am truly, truly sorry.”
Right after Sherwood issued the slur, Daddario told him to stop because he was filming a live video.
Daddario is present during the apologetic video, but doesn’t actually say a thing.

So what? This is just stupid.
It’s like people don’t understand context. It’s just deprecating guy humour. That’s how men act. Get over it.
Juanjo
If you said anything other than the drivel you spurted here, no one would believe it was really you – you despicable troll
dstrong
You are correct. All about context.
DCguy
What shows us that apparently this isn’t stupid is that one of the Anti-lgbt screenames, jumps on here to be first screaming about how stupid it is.
You hyperventilate to defend any anti-lgbt bigot, and then jump on to this post to be first? That right there seems to indicate that you DON’T think this is nothing.
It’s fun when you trolls give your game away.
man5996853
Oh, STFU. If you want to know how many men act, talk to Harvey W. and Kevin Spacey and let’s see how people respond when you tell them to get over it.
KaiserVonScheiss
Once again, my critics have no points — just name calling.
BCbreeze
Well said.
Ken A.
Apology accepted but it is up to your co-star since you called him a fag even jovially, to accept or reject your apology. But unfortunately you won’t be hearing the last of it since everyone is so outrage addicted. Move on.
Bopper1
…correct, it’s all about CONTEXT…I’m a fag and I don’t have a problem with the word when used by the right people in the right context…the PC, social media intensive, zero-tolerance culture we’re living in is becoming fascist…
niles
So sad that you so little regard for yourself.
dstrong
Agreed. It’s fine for black men to call each other the “N” word, but if a white person did it, watch out!! It’s all about context.
Louis
God there is something seriously wrong with some of you here.
Not all of us look at that word as being a COMPLIMENT LGBT in the 80s were called that word and then murdered.
Context my ass that word should never be considered acceptable or humane same equally applies to african americans or whites using the n word constantly in this country.
DCguy
And another troll comes in. Easily spotted by the “I’m a fag and……” part of it.
It’s funny how fake trolls that come in here always feel the need to state that they are a member of the tribe.
Tell the RNC or NOM to send us better trolls, the Mormons during Prop 8 were MUCH better than you at this.
Brian
People are so quick to be truuuuuly, sincereeeely sorry.
It’s obviously fake. It’s a speech prepared by another person. Which is worse than saying nothing at all.
MikeE
If he’s not gay he doesn’t get to reclaim a bigoted epithet that has been hurled at gay men for decades and been the cause of countless suicides, anymore than a white man gets to reclaim the N word.
There is absolutely no appropriate “context” where a straight man can use the word “fag” . Period.
Jaxton
Since when do you determine who can say what? Mind your business.
Daniel-Reader
Good point MikeE.
Brian
Actually, he gets to say whatever he wants because that’s how America works.
CanadianGuy62
What if the straight man is a Brit who wants a cigarette? ;-P
Brody
CanadianGuy62-
Good point . . . are they still allowed to call cigarettes “fags” over there, or have the PC police insisted Brits now refer to them as LGBTs (little ground bits o’ tobacco)?
Daniel-Reader
Actually that’s not how America works. There are lots of curtails on “free speech” – threats, slander, solicitation of illegal activity, and so on. Only a child thinks there are no limits to speech in America. And there are few limits to the consequences attached to so-called “free speech” – you can say something but that doesn’t remove the consequences magically. Or other people being to say what they wish in the form of criticism or rebuke.

The virtue signalling is palpable all round. Vote Roy Moore.
Heywood Jablowme
There is truly no limit to your stupidity, is there?
ChrisK
You can tell when he’s not getting enough attention.
gayhope1990
Stupid rightist troll
Louis
Shutup already this isn’t Fox News and Roy Moore is a PEDOPHILE.
Heywood Jablowme
“What’s up, f@g?” sounds like something Bugs Bunny might say when he dressed in drag (which he did fairly often), but I doubt a straight guy that age would be aware of that “context.”
SiamSam
Well. the fags are out in full force, I see. “Boohoo! Someone said a word I didn’t like!” Fag = hysterical, hypersensitive queen who can dish it out but can’t take it.
Louis
You are pathetic no self respecting gay man would ever say something like that.
The only thing you are is yet ANOTHER enabler of this uncivilized and hateful behavior in this country.
Hysterical and hypersensitive? Really? No more like empathetic and humane people who simply do not attempt to foolishly claim a word that has been used against our community for years as a negative and tool of hate is a POSITIVE or GOOD thing for anyone to use against us.
I don’t give a damn whether you are gay or straight it smacks of a total disregard for ones self worth and self respect when they justify and excuse things such as this.
SiamSam
LOL @Louis Take a Valium or 10.
Slash
Without seeing the original conversation its hard to judge the context and intent of his comment but I tend to think people need to possibly lighten up. Given how close these guys are it was probably said with affection, not malice. That being said, straight guys walk a very thin line trying to use that word with friends let alone in a public video. Best advice is to just not use it, the same way white people stay clear of the N word.

People pointed out in other forums that he has done such things before so it isn’t isolated.
Jack Meoff
All these sad cases willing to forgive him. I bet they wouldn’t be so willing to forgive him if he wasn’t cute looking. People are right to pull up anyone who uses such language so casually. It just reinforces the notion that we are less than and the idiots using it are to clueless to realise it. If they stopped and thought about it they would either stop because they are not homophobic and now realise that it is inappropriate or they would continue to use it because they are homophobic and mean it as a slur.
Griff_Greymuzzle
I agree completely. The more we accept the behavior AND the apologies, the more they’ll keep doing it. And it never hurts when the offender is a hunk. SO easy to forgive if it’s someone we want to shag. As far as I’m concerned, he can get bent. And take his apology with him.
SiamSam
The stupid is strong here. If we don’t accept apologies, there’s no incentive anymore to offer one. “Phuck it. They’ll just keep calling me homophobic anyway.”
PS The LGBTQIIA2XYZ@#%$! community is so relieved we have you alone to decide what’s inappropriate, offensive, and homophobic for everyone else. We’d be little lost lambs without you.
Clay83
The more words like that are embraced and used the less power they have. From watching the video I don’t think he meant any harm and certainly didn’t come off as homophobic. That word also means cigarette in the UK, start using it in the US in that context so all power is removed from the word and cant be used to hurt anyone
RIGay
I do not know the show. I do not know the actor. I would not know about this had it not been posted to social media.
Furthermore… I really don’t care. BFD. Young, douchy person makes an off-cuff slur. Ya know… I’ve heard a lot worse. I will say this “angry pig-pile mentality” is really just… annoying.
Someday folks will wake up and realize that there are bigger fights to fight than trolling the blogs.
Brody
“Okay, f@ggot, what’s next?”
– Dom DeLuise, “History of the World Part I”
My brother says this line to me all the time, and I love him all the more for it.
RIGay
ABSOLUTELY!!!!
And I still find it hysterical in the context it was delivered!
Daniel-Reader
Strange for a straight guy to say that about his brother. Even stranger for a gay guy/bi guy with any self esteem to say that, unless desperate for external validation by a callous sibling.
Brody
Daniel, Daniel, Daniel . . .
This is said to me with the utmost endearment, not callously.
Learn to lighten up.
Nahald
Sorry but apologies just do not work anymore. You said it and you meant it.
SiamSam
This must be just DEVASTATING for you. Someone you’ve never met said a word you don’t like. Does your Obama plan cover intensive psychotherapy? T
Daniel-Reader
Siam, you are the oly one who seems overly invested in all this drama. Rather empty.
ChrisK
@SiamSam. Go back to Fauw News and Brietbart troll.
Bryguyf69
@nahald wrote “You said it and you meant it.”
Meant what? Meant that he believed his friend is gay? That’s clearly not the case. And he clearly had no malice toward his friend. So what are you accusing him of meaning? What he meant was a term of affection among friends that was not meant to be broadcasted. It may not be a term that you like or use, but it was clearly his intent. Unless you truly believe that he was gaybashing his straight friend.
GayRaccoon
He made a mistake. But he is cute, smart and I bet he learned something from this experience. I also like the show but think Daddario is so much hotter.
Stilinski26
are you gonna report on joy Reid and her homophobic past? tick tock
