God damn! Jeremiah Wright’s rapidly becoming the story of the year.
Barack Obama‘s former preacher man found himself on front pages again this morning after he addressed the National Press Club yesterday, when he characterized the fervor as “an attack on Black Churches.” That’s an exaggeration, we think, as does Gay Conservative Liberal.
He contends that Wright’s overstating himself, but does offer an illuminating analysis of Wright’s original statement. Rather than simply condemning America, Wright should have elaborated on why people – black, gay and otherwise – have a right to be angry with the nation.
Among the examples given, Lawrence King and our school systems’ ignorance on gay issues dominate the post, which concludes thus:
It’s that sort of callous indifference to abuses that are perpetrated on other people in this country who are deemed different and unworthy that can rattle one’s patriotism, it’s enough to make you throw your hands up in disbelief and say “God damn America.”
We usually direct our ire at specific people or groups, but why not damn an entire nation. This is the land of equality, after all.
How about we take this to the next level?

America is already damned…it was born that way. Now it can only be saved.
Darth Paul
As gays: no more than we should damn any other patriarchal, repressive system.
This sh!t is getting retarded.

I’ve done it before and I’m sure to do it again. It’s just words. I don’t believe there is a god, but if there was I don’t think she would simply take her orders from me. I can be a bit biased.
Chris
His problem seems to be that when other people would stop in public he begins.

I don’t agree! Anger is not gonna get him anywhere!

I don’t see the big deal. Words are just words. People act as if strong words applied to a nonliving entity are mortal wounds.
I don’t think Wright’s “God damn America” speech was nearly as offensive as many seem to be taking it. Some of his other crackpot conspiracy theories are worthy of ridicule, but the worst thing he’s done so far is lash out at Obama, as far as I’m concerned.
But then again, as an atheist, I’ve never been impressed with religion or its agents, anyway. And Wright is far, far more harmless than that awful bigot, Jerry Falwell, who was revered.
Mr C
And JM you’re so right about what you said.
However, I’m a Christian. But isn’t strange How Falwell is revered and John Hagee who hates gays with a God passion is ignored by these kids on here and this man Rev Wright who affirms LGBT is getting so much hate on here.
HMMMMMMMMMMMM strange isn’t it, or is it?
Please tell me it has nothing to do with his skin color?
Why in the FUCK would you be evil to a Man who accepts you as you are? And some of these queens on here call their asses “PATRIOTIC” For what? This damn country doesn’t give a FUCK about Gays. I call it as I see it. If this was reversed and was White characters this would have died down a long time ago.
But oh No the LGBT Community wants marriage rights, Gay rights, civil rights and everything else. So who would benefit from these things…..white gays????
CHILD PLEASE!
You all are not still getting the BIG PICTURE
IGNORANCE+BIAS=DESTRUCTION!

If anyone saw Wright on Bill Moyers last week, it is easy to understand his most volatile quotes in context and see that he is not afraid to tell the WHOLE truth about the US and its painful history. I am an Obama supporter, but his rejection of Wright is just so politically motivated and it is extremely disappointing to me.
