Meanies

This show brings people face-to-face with their online trolls. What could go wrong?

Online trolls derive their power from anonymity, click-clacking away behind the cozy veneer of screen names like MaJeSticTurTle27 or MAGA4MAGA. So what would happen if they were suddenly exposed to the world? Can you imagine?!

Well MTV can, and did imagine. Now they’re announcing a new Catfish spinoff called Catfish: Trolls, to be hosted by LGBT activist Raymond Braun and Charlamagne Tha God, who we understand to be a human man.

Over the course of 10 episodes, Braun and ‘Tha God’ will investigate, identify and unmask online trolls, and in the process, explore some of the reasons people have for being massive dicks online.

Of course, the fact that it’s a TV show means the “trolls” will have to consent to appear, so the whole thing is a bit far-fetched. But we won’t dwell on the details.

“I’ve always been passionate about encouraging people to have difficult conversations in a respectful, open, and productive way. Our show gives people the opportunity to meet their online trolls face-to-face, and reveals a lot about human psychology, Internet culture, and our generation’s complicated relationship with social media,” Braun wrote on Instagram. “Behind every screen name, every avatar, and every Instagram profile is a human being with an interesting story.”

Hey! What about getting Danny595 signed up for this?

  • barkomatic

Interesting, but they must have found some pretty dumb trolls who agreed to expose themselves on TV, be publicly shamed and potentially have their lives/careers ruined.

Gian*carlo85 is dead, deported AGAIN, or in jail, AGAIN. But I wish I had the chance to pun*ch him in the face. Twice.

      ???

Probably fake like Cheaters where they go down the street looking for people to pretend to verify trolls just to be on tv

  • He BGB

Not verify but Pretend to be trolls. Shit I hate spellchecker it seems worse here on Q, and can’t see what I wrote if I go more than a couple of lines without messing up with touch screen.

Is Disqus, the only one that let’s you go back and edit?

Why the snark about “Charlamagne Tha God”? Why did you write “who we understand to be a human man”? He’s pretty famous as the co-host for years of Wendy Williams’ radio show and as a media personality. If you ever in doubt, you know, just Google!

Trolls troll for the attention. Why would we be surprised they would take their screaming narcissism to TV. Get real folks.
