Meanies

This show brings people face-to-face with their online trolls. What could go wrong?

Online trolls derive their power from anonymity, click-clacking away behind the cozy veneer of screen names like MaJeSticTurTle27 or MAGA4MAGA. So what would happen if they were suddenly exposed to the world? Can you imagine?!

Well MTV can, and did imagine. Now they’re announcing a new Catfish spinoff called Catfish: Trolls, to be hosted by LGBT activist Raymond Braun and Charlamagne Tha God, who we understand to be a human man.

Over the course of 10 episodes, Braun and ‘Tha God’ will investigate, identify and unmask online trolls, and in the process, explore some of the reasons people have for being massive dicks online.

Of course, the fact that it’s a TV show means the “trolls” will have to consent to appear, so the whole thing is a bit far-fetched. But we won’t dwell on the details.

“I’ve always been passionate about encouraging people to have difficult conversations in a respectful, open, and productive way. Our show gives people the opportunity to meet their online trolls face-to-face, and reveals a lot about human psychology, Internet culture, and our generation’s complicated relationship with social media,” Braun wrote on Instagram. “Behind every screen name, every avatar, and every Instagram profile is a human being with an interesting story.”
