Simon Cowell Makes Gay Joke On Live TV, Internet Naturally Offended

Can you believe Simon Cowell is not always super nice to everyone?

On a recent Xtra Factor, which sounds like a math textbook, Rylan Clark-Neal was co-hosting a segment when he said “I love a front door,” for whatever reason. Simon responded, “I thought you liked back doors?”

Meh, as homophobic jokes go, that one’s pretty flaccid. Really depends on the context — you could say it cruelly, while menacing a gay person. Or you could say it affectionately over mimosas at brunch. It certainly sounds like the kind of catty jibe two queer friends might exchange.

At any rate, Rylan didn’t seem to mind, and said “Oh, Simon! Would you like me to show you how much?”

And then Simon was all, “I apologise. I shouldn’t have said that – sorry, sorry, sorry.”

But by then the internet had something to be miffed about, and posted various tweets of annoyance:

So there you have it, the life cycle of a scandal that is not, in fact, even remotely scandalous. But we’ll take anything to distract us from this miserable election.
