Situation Iowa: Protestors and Political Death Threats

sen-matt-mccoy

While some 300 opponents of same-sex marriage braved the rain yesterday to demonstrate in front of the Statehouse to convince Gov. Chet Culver to do something about the State Supreme Court’s marriage equality ruling (ya know, before 2012, when voters will have a chance to vote on a constitutional amendment), EVEN THOUGH HE CAN’T, openly gay Democratic State Sen. Matt McCoy was receiving a death threat.

He received the threatening phone call on Monday, but because it wasn’t received at the Capitol Building, the Des Moines Police are responsible for investigating. Way too early to jump to conclusions, and the phoner could’ve been placed by a single unnerved constituent, but let’s be clear: Threatening violence and death is no way to make your voice heard.
