It’s that time of the year, and we don’t mean the cherry blossoms.
Teenagers across the country are awkwardly asking each other to prom, and what was once a near-certain letdown for LGBTQ youth who could only dream of inviting the person they really had their sights on, is slowly becoming an opportunity to change the game.
1. Take, for instance, this video that was recently posted of a high school senior first coming out to his class, then asking a boy to the big dance (A little backstory: the boy he asks, Mark, had been telling his friends he wished he could go to prom with a guy. When he’s asked, he bursts into tears of joy.):
And if that didn’t melt your heart right out of your chest, here are some more memorable and inspiring queer promposals:
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
2. No chicks at this drive-through
“I asked Logan to the prom after his work. I gave him a bag with a chicken sandwich inside and asked, ‘Are you a chicken or will you go to the prom with me?’ ” Michael said. “He easily and gladly said yes.”
Takeout dinners aside, here’s how they looked on the big night:
3. Things that would be really gay: you going to prom with me
Well that cuts right to the point — and she said yes!
4. Musical theater mashup
Wonder where they…rented…their tuxes?
5. Political animals
The messaging could use some work, but it’s still so now.
6. Field of dreams
If you ask her, she will dance.

For someone who went to high school in the 50’s all this is really just unbelievable. Perhaps even more so than marriage equality.

It is becoming more common as we see TV series and movies with LGBTs as actors. My lifetime partner of 54 years, married 12 years in Massachusetts had our 50th anniversary party in 2012 and had many guests, gay and straight, married and single. We need to keep on fighting to stop these anti-LGBT discrimination laws and the right wingers losing money seems to be the main key to winning our equality.

@crowebobby: As someone who went to high school in the 90’s it’s unbelievable.

I have wanted to get married my whole life, but now that the HIV and Lipodystrophy have destroyed my body and my looks, I sadly have to admit that it will never happen for me.
I really am happy for everyone else, but it sucks for me cus I know I will never be that happy.
