Human Rights Campaign honcho Joe Solmonese does not buy John McCain’s bullshit interview with the Washington Blade:
…John McCain’s answers to those well written questions do nothing but insult the intelligence of the LGBT community. Senator McCain’s double speak fools no one. At the end of the day, his policies haven’t changed at all.
It’s interesting that John McCain thinks that being civil is going to win us over, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that he is against every single policy that would protect and promote equality for the LGBT community.
It’s 2008, ‘some of my best friends are gay’ doesn’t work anymore. Sorry, we’ve already had one ‘compassionate conservative’ in the White House for eight years, we aren’t interested in another.”
Well, maybe some of those masochist queens are, but you know…

The thing that is even spookier is that McCain’s cheif of staff, Mark Buse, is openly gay, is in a longterm relationship, McCain knows this and yet is anti-gay in his policies. So which is it, is the an anti-gay zealot who will hire one of “The gays” when they are from a wealthy AZ family and can help his campaign” or is he somebody that doesn’t put anything together in his head, i.e. well Mark has a good salary, a nice house, so everything with the gays is fine, or lastly, is he not anti-gay and is willing to screw-over somebody who has been an employee and friend for nearly 20 years to pander to that portion of the base. Any of the three is not a nice picture.

I’m supposed to be surprised?? Joe Solmonese and the HRC are so rigid in their blind support for Sen. Obama and the Democratic Party that they’re incapable of seeing any shades of gray when it comes to the GOP. Are Sen. McCain’s answers really that different from Sen. Obama’s if you strip-away the Federalism?
The HRC needs to replace their “Equal”-logo with the DNC’s ass.

Funny thing is the it is only because of the Democratic party’s soft support for our cause that the republicans aren’t out to fully have us all executed or deported or worse converted. Please if you are a republican, then don’t be gay because you really are bringing us all down like a rock on a small boat.

Well put, Mr. Solomnese!

The questions in the Blade were awesome! What a reality check with McCain’s poor answers.

ok here in australia, we have to vote as part of our constitution,we have to vote and do (most of us anyway) or be fined. A government should be formed on the national majority not who turns up on polling day. Australia got rid of John Howard (GWBs bitch) time you got rid of grandpa McCain and that demented, inarticulate Palin and VOTE!!!!!!!!

Joe Solmonese. What, a hero? It took real guts to get on the wrong side of virtually the entire LGBT movement and other civil rights groups when he hopped into bed with Benedict Arnold, aka Barney Frank and the Democrats when they gutted ENDA. The Democrats accepted every Republican amendment offered in their feeding frenzy to defeat the real ENDA.
The original version of ENDA had the support of every civil rights group in the US and it’s easy to see why. The real, not the gutted version, of ENDA would have vastly eased the hardass restrictions of earlier civil rights bills that virtually stopped women, Blacks, Latinos and the LGBT communities from suing for redress. The only ones who benefited from the backstabbing by Solmonese and Frank were the business owners and managers who use racism, misogyny, immigrant bashing and homophobia as a sword of Damocles to twist the arms of women, minority and GLBT workers to accept lower wages, awful working conditions and fewer benefits like health insurance.
Undoubtedly Frank will get lots of ‘donations’ by Chamber of Commerce types when he runs for the Senate.
Now Solmonese wants to pretend he’s gay again, at least for awhile, and it’s probably connected to a fund raising effort. Aside from stabbing us in the back and asking for money HRC and Solmonese don’t do much of merit. Honest people in honest groups could do a lot better. HRCs brand of “politics by, for and of†the rich is a political version of “gay for pay†and is devoid of backbone and principles.
That’s why, when Salmonese says
he forgets to mention that those words typify both candidates. Obama and McCain are both superstitious opportunists who pander to bigots by frequently sermonizing that they and “god†agree that we’re second class citizens who don’t deserve the simple right to marry.
Solmonese, Barney Frank, Obama and the Democrats all talk the talk but not one of them will take the walk with us. They stumble and do the “one step forward, two steps back and allemande right†in lockstep with McCain and the Republicans.
