When we first read the headline of the Daily Iowan‘s editorial “Democrats should be commended for making gay marriage a nonissue,” we almost felched. But then we realized they were talking about Iowa‘s Democrats — which control both legislatures — who shut down any debate on a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage there. So yeah, commend away!

I can’t imagine you meant that you almost felched…
FakeName
When you read the editorial headline you almost sucked a load of your own cum out of someone’s ass?
JD
@FakeName: Yes.

Dude, if you’re gonna felch, just do it. None of this almost stuff. That’s just being a tease.

What do their Democrats have that our national Democratic leaders don’t have?
eg
I’m from Iowa. The issue of gay marraige is in the news about once a week. The Iowa Family Policy Center is constantly attacking the supreme court decision and has staged many rallies to overturn the decision. The fight is far from over here, however, our democratic congress has held firm to what was handed down by the court. This could change if our democratic governor loses the next election. There are several republican candiates who have vowed to overturn the decsion. Not legal, and not possible…but threats and fear seems to work! They GLBT community and stright friends have come together to stay strong, give money and keep our rights protected. The hope is that in a few years should it ever go to a public vote, that nobody will care anymore and realize the world hasn’t stopped spinning or been swallowed up because a few (hundred) gays got married! Sad…that that’s what we have to have faith in.

@Nick
“What do their Democrats have that our national Democratic leaders don’t have?”
1. Balls;
2. Honesty to follow their Oath of Office to uphold the Constitution;
3. And Understanding that minorities need the protection of legislators from a majority who has animus toward them;
4. Political understanding; gays influence a great segment of the voting base who energizes enthusiasm for the party;
5. Love for helping families and children;
6. Americanism, helping others pursue life and liberty and happiness equally under the law.

I agree with EG; the issue has not died down, and my local rep. Clel Baudler still vows to halt our civil freedoms and to “correct” the Court’s ruling (despite my numerous letters to him!). Moreover, the Speaker has only said that he would stop anyone from making it an issue THIS year, which means they it can, and MAY, be brought up in consecutive sessions (which is what we fear!).

Also, one of the Reps. running for the office of Governor–Terry Brandtsadt–and has said that he will find a way to over-turn the Court’s decision, is actually the one who got DOMA passed in Iowa, and consequently signed it into law! ‘Course, he’s also the one who nominated the SC Justice who struck down this inequality and ruled that we are “a suspect class”! So, if it DOES come to a vote in the House and Senate, we should do what Cali. ought to have, and SUE the state to get it prohibited on the grounds that it target’s a Judicially-ruled/ confirmed “suspect class”!
I saw ol’ Terry shopping for groceries a few years back, and as I walked passed, i called him an “ass-hole” to his face for what he did!

Just went back to the decision in Varnum and am again awed by what a beautifully written decision it is. They just go through and dismantle every single argument the haters have, one-by-one. And it’s a unanimous decision, too!
Why can’t the rest of the country be more like Iowa? Here in New York, the majority of OUR highest court thinks that because the hets can accidentally knock themselves up, the geighs shouldn’t get marriage. What the hell are they smoking?
