Son Comes Out To His Father In Incredibly Moving McDonald’s Commercial

mccafe

A brand new ad by McCafé that revolves around a moving and sophisticated coming-out story has earned the wrath of Taiwanese religious fundamentalists who want the chain boycotted.

The video, which is just past the minute-and-a-half-mark, is the third in McCafé’s “More Warmth in Conversations” campaign. It portrays a tense moment between father and son, both huddled at a McCafé table. The son passes a coffee cup to his dad that reads “I like boys” and the father rises up, upset.

The young man is left alone, visibly distraught, but soon his father returns, jots something down on a coffee cup, and hands it to his son.

The cup reads: “I accept that you like boys.”

It was released Friday night on McDonald’s Taiwan’s Facebook page and has been already been viewed 1.5 million times.

Not surprisingly, many of the island’s religious fundamentalists were not delighted by the ad.

The Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family released a statement asking parents to boycott Mickey D’s stat:

Now, even if you want to just take a leak at a McDonald’s bathroom, you can’t help but feel polluted…. [The Alliance] does not approve of the ideological stand behind the advertisement.”

“Because McDonald’s is frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behavior.. [The Alliance] opposes all advertising that miseducate children on sexual behavior [and] rebukes and boycotts all enterprises that are polluting the next generation.”
