Southern Voice Editor Quits In Latest Round of Paper’s Musical Chairs

David Valentine has resigned after seven months as the editor of the beleaguered Southern Voice because, he claims, the financials of owner Gaydar are a mess, leading to past-due payments to staffers and freelancers and lawsuits from vendors, Project Q reports. Originally brought on to edit the Atlanta Free Press (which closed abruptly after several issues), Valentine took over SoVo in April as the paper’s third editor; since then, it’s been accused of plagiarism and seen its internal strife play out publicly. His now-former boss Matt Neuman, who owns the company, insists Valentine just “wasn’t a good fit,” and that it was Valentine’s paperwork mishaps that caused payment delays.
