Donald Trump once boasted that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and he wouldn’t lose any voters. Considering the tape that was just released in which Trump boasts in the most vulgar terms possible how he forces himself on women, the person Trump ended up shooting was himself.
Trump has pushed the envelope for the acceptable in politics ever since he announced his candidacy. Unbridled racism? Check. Unvarnished xenophobia? Check. Trashing war heroes? Check. None of it seems to have made a big dent in Trump’s trajectory.

But the grossness of Trump’s comments, to say nothing of the casual sexism behind them, will be nearly impossible to overcome. Trump admitted that he sexual assaults women, as Trump says in the video, when you’re a star “you can do anything. Grab them by the pussy.” He keeps Tic Tacs on hand just for the occasion (and a nice touch on the video is hearing the rattle of the mints as Trump spots a pretty actress).

Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus said “no woman should ever be described or talked about in these terms.” Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush slammed Bush, while Republican Senators running for re-election quickly tried to distance themselves from the man at the top of the ticket.
(The revelation won’t do Billy Bush‘s career much good either. The footage was from an Access Hollywood segment in 2005, during which Bush, then a reporter for the show, egged Trump on while the pair prepared to go on camera. Bush is now–or more accurately, at least for now–a correspondent on the Today show.)

Even the worst gay political scandals fail to compare to Trump’s debacle. Mark Foley didn’t just start groping the crotches of Congressional pages, preferring instead to groom his potential partners first. Larry Craig was just seeking to get off with some other consenting men in a restroom. Their antics were sleazy, but they lacked the brazen embrace of assault that Trump clearly revels in.
The tape’s release couldn’t come at a worse time for Trump.In two days, he faces another presidential debate, at which his comments are bound to be center stage. He flopped in the first presidential debate, allowing Clinton to open up a lead again after the race tightened. Results from internal polls that both parties are conducting are showing Trump in free fall.
Free fall will look like slow motion as the tape’s full effects take hold. With a little more than four weeks to go, it’s hard to see how Trump can recover from glorying in sexual assault. You can say that it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
But just consider how many women had to hear the rattle of the Tic Tacs as he approached them.

Obergefell was also based on Loving and the 14th’s equal protection clause + due process clauses as well. To overturn Obergefell would be to overturn Loving AND Lawrence. And THAT will NEVER happen.
Marriage has been considered a fundamental right since Maynard v. Hill, 125 U.S. 190, 205, 211 (1888) + 14 cases since then, including Loving v. Virginia and Lawrence v. Texas.

@leobaga: Except for that one time in CA, where a ballot proposition took away the rights of LGBT people to marry others of the same sex… you know, Prop 8, and all the money that was spent on both sides. Trump has succeeded in what he set out to do from day one: destroy the GOP. You guys don’t seem to remember that he never got over being slighted back in 2012 when no one was interested in attending a debate he wanted to sponsor in NYC. ALL then GOP presidential candidates offered him lip service as to why they had NO intentions of attending his debate. He started bad mouthing them then but it got little press coverage. Keep that in mind he sure as hell did get even.
I have said before and will say again the best thing that should have been done (too late now of course) was to ask Obama to stay on for another year while BOTH side sought another candidate. If Trump did the right thing and quit the race I bet ol’ Brother Love (Pence) would win. Hillary was smart to stand there and let Trump kill himself during their debate but Pence is smarter than that, unfortunately.

@Bob LaBlah: There is absolutely zero way President Obama and Vice President Biden were going to stay on past January 20. Obama is more than enough of a constitutional scholar and adherent to know what the law is. Breaking that law would usher in grave consequences down the road.
So whoever wins in November, and it will likely be Clinton and Kaine but even if it is Trump and Pence, that duo should and will take office in January 2017. If there is some issue with both, we have a constitutional chain of succession that we must and will adhere to.
Also, Trump first floated the idea of running for the presidency back in the late 1980s. I’d recommend *The Choice*, the PBS documentary about Trump and Clinton. He’s repeatedly flattered himself with thinking he’s qualified to be president. He probably would have run for Governor of New York, but Albany was too small-time for his ego, and most New Yorkers knew what a fraud and sham he was.

Not only did Cruz come in second (in delegates) but it is a real mystery as to why he didnt put a fight for the nomination as he sure as hell could have done (maybe the reality of no one wanting him finally set in, who knows). He did get even with his closing statement of “vote your conscious” while being booed off of the stage, as was that turkey-throated, old-passed-gas of a Majority House Leader, Mitch McConnell.
Imagine the resurrection of a religious zealot who wins the election (he just might because of how no one really wants Clinton) and doesn’t realize the more he screams about Christianity from the mountain tops while damning Islam and muslims the more radicalize he will make them (muslims). This is a real mess we are looking at here and I say AGAIN the best thing that COULD have been done by both parties BEFORE the conventions was to accept the fact that they both made a mistake and keep Obama on for another year while the mistake got sorted out. In other words let both parties find some one else (and surely NOT ol’ Brother Ted). Its too late now.
